A4 - Anaheim Gazette Anaheim, Calif., Thurs., Mar. 21, 1957 Higher Taxes Face Citizens if Voting Majority Changed Property owners of Orange County would face far heavier taxes to pay for local government debt if the present requirement for a two-thirds majority vote for general obligation bonds for counties, cities and school districts were reduced to a simple majority, as is proposed in measures now before the state legislature, S. J. Arnold, general manager of California Taxpayers' association, warned today. The executive committee of the state-wide Taxpayers' association is opposed to reduction from a two-thirds vote to a simple majority vote required for approval of such bonds, as proposed in A. C. A. 33 and 46, Arnold said. Even with a two-thirds vote requirement, the bonded debt of the school districts alone in the county stood at $30,003,500 at the end of fiscal 1955, latest state-wide data, he pointed out. City, county and special district debts are not included in this figure. K of C. The "white charger" would be a Civil Defense "Calamity Jane" heavy rescue truck, of the recently announced light truck. Some 800 rescue trucks are now in use by local U.S. civil defense units. Approximately 60,000 trained volunteers—some of them perhaps neighbors—are serving on civil defense rescue teams.
