'First-Aid-O-Ree' For Boy Scouts Set for March 16
The second annual 'First-Aid-O-Ree' for Boy Scouts of the Northern Orange County Council will be held Saturday evening, Mar. 16, at 7 p.m. in the Anaheim High School main gymnasium, according to Eldon Rodjeck, chairman of the council's activities and camping committee. This is an inter-patrol contest in the field of First Aid, using a plan of competition against a standard developed over years in boy scouting camperies. It teaches them to do only that which is absolutely necessary until the doctor arrives. It also trains scouts to accurately estimate the time it will take for a doctor to arrive, what will likely happen to the patient during this time, and what they should do immediately based on this information.
In order that the value of the 'First-Aid-O-Ree' is spread among as many scouts as possible, patrols from all over the Council will send in a team of five scouts. Patrol leaders are team captains and, as such, are responsible for control and discipline of their teams during this competition. A set of four problems will be given all teams at the same time for working out. Judges trained in first aid will be on hand to judge the work of each team. To further educate the Scouts in first aid, each problem will call for a different member of the team to act as problem leader.
Each team is required to furnish a patient and other first aid equipment, such as blankets, neckerchiefs, first aid kits, staves, etc., usually recognized in Scouting as emergency items available in camp, on the trail or at home. Once the 'First Aid-O-Ree' starts, the Scouts will be on their own. Instructors, leaders and other adults will not be permitted in the team area in order that the board or from headquarters office at 1020 N. Street, Sacramento.

County May Get Two Additional Assemblymen
Prospects of one and possibly two additional assemblymen for Orange County due to skyrocketing population figures were reported today by State Senator John A. Murdy, Jr.
Orange County today, with two assemblymen, is operating under the census of 1950 which showed a county population of 216,224, the senator said.
The county is split into two Assembly Districts at present with the Santa Ana River separating the 74th and 75th Districts. Assemblymen Bruce Sumner and Richard Hanna, both freshmen solons, are representing the county in Sacramento presently.
Official figures listed in Sacramento show that as of July 1, 1956, Orange County's population was 414,200. However, 1957 population figures show the county considerably over the 500,000 mark which would allow for
Calif. First State To Get Federal Aid For Rental Housing
United States Senator Thomas H. Kuchel announced today that California will be the first state to benefit from a liberalized Federal program to stimulate construction of multi-family rental housing.
In order to help ease a critical housing shortage for workers in defense plants, the Federal National Mortgage Association has agreed to issue advance commitments to buy FHA-insured mortgages on large-scale projects. Kuchel said. Previously, "Fannie May" commitments were limited to single-family units.
Kuchel said intensified defense production in San Diego has made the housing shortage more acute and necessitated extraordinary steps to clear the way for more housing construction. The situation resulted from orders for greater output of F-102 jet airplanes and prospective production of the Atlas intercontinental ballistics missile at a new plant being erected near San Diego.
Senator Kuchel said he has been informed by Federal Housing Administrator Albert M. Cole that the new policy being applied to San Diego will be followed generally. It is being carried out first in San Diego because of the lack of normal financing required to overcome the urgent housing need.
Under the program, FNMA will issue commitments to buy mortgages on multi-family rental units at 93 per cent of par. The FHA will make an economic feasibility survey and decide the total demand for housing accommodations at rents sufficient to pay the mortgages.
The total program is expected to result in construction of approximately $10,000,000 worth of rental units in the San Diego area, Kuchel said.
Local Man Is Renamed to
Official figures listed in Sacramento show that as of July 1, 1956, Orange County's population was 414,200. However, 1957 population figures show the county considerably over the 500,000 mark, which would allow for a third Assembly District for the county.
If Orange County's population continued to grow at its present rate a possibility exists that the county could have two additional assemblymen. Three Assembly Districts are allotted with 510,000 population, and four Districts with 680,000.
