Carnegie, radarman second class, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Perkins of 17421 Canyon Way, Anahheim, and husband of the former Miss Eleanor Hood of Placentia, is serving aboard the submarine USS Blackfin based at Pearl Harbor, T.H. The Blackfin is engaged in daily training operations in Hawaiian waters developing offensive and defensive underwater warfare tactics. Navy Ers. Fred R. Thoele has recently received his "Wings of Gold" of a Naval Aviator at the Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, Tex. Thoele is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Barney Thoele of 10472 Lincoln, Anahheim. He received his designation on Nov. 9, after 18 months of flight training. Thoele has been assigned to the Naval Air Station, San Diego. Pvt. Frank C. Jaque, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Jaque of 8321 Orange Ave., Anahheim, participated in a major West Coast amphibious landing exercise Oct. 29-Nov. 4 at Camp Pendleton. Of 15,000 Marines involved, the majority were from the 1st Marine Division's 7th Regiment, plus reinforcing elements of artillery, engineers, shore party and reconnaissance units. Stabile, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stable of Disneyland, Anaheim, was scheduled to graduate from recruit training Dec. 1 at the Naval Training Center in San Diego. The graduation exercises, marking the end of nine weeks of "boot camp," included a full dress parade and preview before military officials and civilian dignitaries. In nine weeks of instruction, the "raw recruit" is developed into a Navy Bluejacket, ready for duty with the fleet. Army Pvt. Edward C. Eldred, son of Mrs. Pearl L. Evans, 941 Kenmore St., Anaheim, is receiving basic combat training with the 9th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colo. Pvt. Herman C. Venegas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jose M. Venegas, 1081 Gonzales St., Anaheim, is a member of the 7th Infantry Division in Korea. Assigned to Company I of the division's 32d Regiment, Venegas entered the Army last January and arrived in the Far East last July. He attended a Jolla High School. With Destroyer Division 112 aboard the destroyer USS Isbell, Harry C. Jordan, seaman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Jordan of 9002 Kenmore, Anaheim, visited Wellington, New Zealand in early November. During a four-day visit to Wellington, members of the division were entertained by the American Ambassador to New Zealand, the Honorable R. C. Hendrickson. The four ships of the division made the 12,000-mile trip from their home port of San Diego, Calif., in just under 13 days. Other ports of call during the trip were Pearl Harbor; Pago Pago, Samoa; Manus Island, Bismarck Archipelago; and Guam, Marianas Islands. Anaheim Students Complete Course Pat Antolin, Sharon Johnson, Karen Bashara and Jackie Miles, all of Anaheim, were among the 136 Orange County residents who received their certificates of attendance recently when they completed a four-night free course in techniques of Christmas selling at Santa Ana College. Under the direction of Dudley Simmons, cooperative merchandising instructor at SAC, the students were instructed in various phases of selling to prepare them for special Christmas rush-season work in local stores.
