'Man of Year' To Become Annual Optimist Project The Anaheim Optimist Club "Man of the Year" award was presented to Don Berger, athletic director and field man at Anaheim Union High School, at the last regular dinner meeting of the club, Nov. 15. Berger is a native son and a graduate of the local high school. He was selected because of his outstanding achievement with the American Legion Jr. baseball team, which won the Legion tournament and went to the semi-finals of the state tournament. Guests from the Legion were Bud Lansdowne, past Commander; Kenneth Lae, present Commander; and Dave Kauplae, manager of the baseball队. Appearing in behalf of the Anaheim Symphony Orchestra, Dick Acton and Ray Heller spoke to the assembled members and guests, outlining the work of the symphony group. They stated that more than 90 per cent of the orchestra members were from Anaheim, Garden Grove and Fullerton area. It is a non-profit organization, and is supported solely by donations. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, the Optimist club did not meet last Thursday. Another matter to come before the last meeting was the presentation of the charter for Boy Scout Troop No. 22. Joe Sowder made the presentation. Medical Assistants Plan Party Dec. 11 Disneyland Hotel The regular meeting of the Orange County Medical Assistants Association is to be held at the Disneyland Hotel on Dec. 11. This will be a Christmas party, an excellent program being planned, and each member may bring their husbands, fathers, sons, employers and/or wives. It is planned to be a gala evening with a good program, good food, good fellowship, and will be concluded with the drawing of the three prizes from the raffle tickets sold for the Association's philanthropic project. Everyone is asked to bring a gift for a patient at Pacific Colony, wrapped in a festive manner. Reservations must be in to Lorraine Gulickson at 526 W. 17th St., Santa Ana, no later than Thursday, Dec. 6. The November meeting was held at the Revere House with 160 members, guests and applicants in attendance. Mr. Thomas O'Dea, manager of the Physicians Relations Department of California Physicians Service of Los Angeles was the speaker. His topic for the evening was "The Effect of Prepayment Insurance on Medical Economics". The announcement was made at this meeting that Mary Kinn, junior past president of the California Medical Assistants Association, also the first president of the Orange County Medical Assistants Association was nominated at the annual meeting of the American Association of Medical Assistants for president-elect. She will take office next October and will be a baby boy, weighing pounds seven and one-half was born on Nov. 13, to Mrs. raine Emily Kellogg, who Captain William C. Kellogg Family Meet for Big Thanksgiving Day The L. Frank Kellogg was the scene of a family ering for Thanksgiving on his mother, Mrs. Helen Kailinubin of Santa Ana, the guest. Merrifield Passes Suddenly John R. Merrifield passed away very suddenly at his home at 10451 White Gate Rd., Anaheim, on Sunday, Nov. 18. He was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 43 years ago. Surviving is his wife, Elizabeth J., of the home; four children, Michael J., Mark William, Maureen and Margaret, all at home; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Griffin of Ia., and Mrs. Ann Treventhen of Illinois, and two brothers, George and Bruce Merrifield, both of Iowa. Recitation of Holy Rosary was held at Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars Mortuary chapel on Tuesday evening at 7 o'clock with Mass at St. Boniface Catholic Church Wednesday at 9 a.m. Interment was in Holy Sepulchre cemetery. During the month of October, the first of several workshops was held at the Santa Ana Community Hospital with 65 medical assistants present. The workshop was on all types of insurance. The panel, moderator for this workshop was Olive Clark with panel members being Chloe Lee, Zelma Davidson, Marie Pullen, and Ann Bass. Kellogg, USA, Tripler Army Hospital, Honolulu, Hawaii. Capt. Kellogg, who is stationed at Tripler Army Hospital, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. Frank Kellogg of 530 N. West St., Anaheim. Mrs. Kellogg is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert G. Tittler of 8635 La Tremolina Lane in Whittier. Bratt Dies Suddenly Wednesday Oscar Harold Bratt, a native New York who came to Anhaelim ten years ago, employed as a chemical engineer with the General Electric Company on North Olive Street, died very unexpectedly yesterday evening after a sudden heart attack. He was 45 years of age. He is survived by his wife, Helen T. Bratt and his mother, Mrs. Otilia A. Bratt of New York. Funeral services will be conducted from Hilgenfeld chapel Saturday at 10 a.m. and entombment will follow in Melrose Abbey Mausoleum. Georgia L. Samis Death Wednesday Georgia L. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Vernon W. Bobst of Anaheim; one brother, Martin H. Yenawine of Acampo, Calif., three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at Hilgenfeld Chapel Saturday at 2 p.m. by a member of the Christian Science Church with cremation to follow. Broadway P-TA Hear Librarian The regular Parent-Teacher Association meeting was held at the Broadway school with Mrs. George Bell presiding in the absence of the president, Mrs. Cruz Sandoval. Miss Elva Haskett, librarian, was the guest speaker for this meeting, choosing as her topic "The Library's Place in the Community". She gave an interesting and educational background. Sycamore Street in Santa Ana last Tuesday evening. Those attending were from over Orange County and formed the nucleus for this new get acquainted club.
