Capital funds of $54,941 consisted of capital stock of 913,875, surplus $25,586,125, undivided profits $11,445,078 affecting increases in all categories. CENTER — F State Revenues Show Increase First Two Months General fund revenues in California for the first two months of the 1956-57 fiscal year totaled $170,865,581. Robert C. Kirkwood, State Controller, announced today. The amount is an increase of $15,891,358, or 10.25 per cent, over the same period last year. Revenue increases were reported in the following: retail sales and use taxes, $13,137,491; interest on investments and treasury deposits, $2,142,216; personal income tax, $1,454,519; inheritance tax, $611,836; bank and corporation franchise and income taxes, $80,154; gift tax, $18,347; and other revenue, $663,518. These were partially offset by the following decreases: liquor taxes, $1,457,224; pari-mutuel fees, $547,114; and royalties and other revenue from state lands, $212,385. General Fund cost expenditures for the first two months of the 1956-57 fiscal year totaled $131,906,835, an increase of $17,962,740—or 15.76 per cent—over the same period last year. Principal increases in governmental costs occurred in these functions: apportionments for elementary schools, high schools and junior colleges, $1,950,000; University of California, $1,737,117; aid to needy aged, $1,432,463; aid to needy blind, $101,522; and miscellaneous fixed charges and appropriations, $12,986,086.
