second quarter of 1956 will receive $2,960,870.64 in the second distributed of state-collected funds. About to be made by Controller Robert C. Kirkwood. This distribution represents local taxes on May transactions of those retailers who report sales tax liabilities at monthly intervals, plus some taxes on April transactions which were not ready for earlier distribution.
The seven counties will receive 18 per cent and the cities remaining 82 per cent of the second distribution. This relationship differs considerably from county to county for two reasons. (1) Some counties do not share in collections of sales taxes within their cities; others do. (2) In some counties almost all of the retail business is done in cities; in others there are many retail establishments in unincorporated areas, all of whose taxes go to the counties. Mariposa and Mono counties get all of the local sales taxes collected within their boundaries since they have no cities. At the other extreme, Los Angeles County will get 15½ per cent of the local taxes collected within its boundaries.
The receipts based on May taxable transactions reported for the City of Anaheim amounted to $21,037.69 and brought to $39,-078.21 the city's revenue from

Congressman James B. UTT of Santa Ana, shown as he contemplates the contribution of Father Junipera Serra to the State of California.
Congressman Utt Gives Capitol Information
Congressman James B. UTT of Santa Ana, who represents the 28th Congressional District including Orange and a portion of San Diego Counties, explained about the selection of Father Junipera Serra as one of the two California men honored by having statues of them placed in our nation's Capitol.
"Each state was invited in 1864," said Congressman UTT, "To send statues of two of their most distinguished citizens who were worthy of National commemoration. It took a state-named commission to make the final selection after 67 years of controversy."
"I commend the commission on their choice," said Congressman UTT, "as Father Serra and Thomas Starr King, the Unitarian Minister who was also honored, did an outstanding job in making California the ideal living area it is today."
Congressman UTT has represented the 28th District for the past four years in the U.S. Congress and has an outstanding record of achievement. He has opposed Socialistic legislation while supporting Free Enterprise. He seeks re-election and solicits your support.
