Golden-brown pancakes
in 2 minutes—
when you cook electrically!
TODAY NOTHING COOKS FASTER than a modern electric range. From a cold start with a cold pan, your pancakes are golden-brown in 2 minutes. Hot soup takes 68 seconds. Bacon and eggs 3½ minutes. Fry, bake, broil or roast—electricity does it better.
THERE'S MORE: your kitchen is cooler. And cleaner. Pots and pans keep that mirror-bright shine. Kitchen walls look fresh and new much longer.
AFTER WARRANTY on your range expires, Edison services it free—charges only for parts, if needed.
IF YOU'RE STILL COOKING the old way, it's simply because you haven't seen the new '56 electric ranges at your appliance dealer's.

H. I. Perry, your Telephone Manager in Anaheim
It's more than a job—it's a career
Did you know that one out of every five telephone men have been with Pacific Telephone over 20 years? One out of four telephone women have been with us over ten years. Many have been with us much longer. For a telephone job is much more than just a job. It's a career. And as telephone men and women gain valuable experience, they move up to jobs with more responsibility. This gives all of us at Pacific Telephone a sense of accomplishment. And it means that your telephone service is always in the hands of well trained, experienced people. It means better service to you. The men and women of Pacific Telephone work to make your telephone more useful every day.

They'll be as close as your telephone
Well, they'll soon be packed up and off to school. And then the slam-bang activity that's been going on all summer will slow down. Sure, it'll be peaceful. But it's a good bet, too, that you'll be happy to hear their voices often. So why not plan now to make regular telephone visits with your boy or girl away at school this coming semester. You can tell them to call home collect, too. You'll be surprised to find how low long distance rates really are, especially after 6 o'clock on weekdays and all day Sundays.
THANKS
We appreciate your patience and understanding towards our problem of providing telephone service to this fast expanding area.
As you know Western Electric has just finished the installation of additional equipment which will enable us to complete all unfilled orders requiring central office facilities. In excess of 1800 subscribers awakened Sunday, August 19th, to find their telephones in working order. This mass connection was actually made at 12:01 A.M.
Prospect 4 is the prefix assigned to this equipment and those of you that have a 1 or 2 party service have access to "Direct Distant Dialing". Our other prefixes will be modified in June 1957 so that our other subscribers too will have "Direct Distant Dialing".
Again our thanks for your patience.
Promise into Petroleum products to meet the new $10,000 catalyst refining tradition of providing Western motorists with products that anticipate rather than follow advanced trends in automotive engineering.
No matter what the demands of tomorrow's automobiles are for more powerful fuels, this new facility will be ready—as it is ready now—to more than satisfy all requirements.

State Requirement For Patrol Changed From Last Year
In reply to numerous inquiries, the State Personnel Board emphasized that entrance requirements for the forthcoming State Traffic Officer examination have been changed since last year's recruitment drive. The new age requirement is 21 to 31 years instead of the previous 35-year maximum. Stricter physical standards require the applicants to be not less than five feet nine inches in height. Salaries have been raised substantially, bringing the new range up to $395 to $481 a month.
Successful candidates will receive training at the California Highway Patrol Academy. Operation of a motorcycle will be taught there. Possession of a valid California automobile driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
The Personnel Board also emphasized that no sample questions for the examination are in any way made available and that the state does not endorse nor recommend enrollment in any particular school as preparation for this examination, which is given on an open, competitive basis.
The examination is statewide and has been set for Saturday, Oct. 13, 1956. Applications must, however, be filed not later than September 14, which is the official final date for filing.
Application forms and detailed information regarding requirements, employment conditions and promotional opportunities may be obtained from any local Department of Employment office or the State Personnel Board, 801 Capitol Avenue, Sacramento.
