The most notable event of the week in London has been the illumination of the business quarter of the city with the electric light. On Thursday night, the Brush company had 32 lights replacing 162 gas lamps. Siemans had 6 great lights hoisted on tall poles and 28 small lights. The streets seemed like day. One could easily read newspapers in any part. The outlines of the great public buildings about the Bank of England were brought out with strong effect.
Jesus Moreno, the well known and desperate horse thief was seen on Tuesday leisurely riding up the Santa Ana Canyon with a lot of fine stolen horses. When near the Yorba settlement he relieved a fellow traveler of some $30. He was last seen going toward Temescal.
The following are the names attached to the call for a land league mass meeting of the citizens of Antheme who are in sympathy with the Irish Land League, to be held at Kroeger's hall on Saturday evening. Among them are many of our most prominent citizens: Edward Evey, S. L. Chilson, D. E. Miles, T. A. Darling, E. A. Saxton, Geo. H. Bailey, A. Langenberger, Robt W. Scott, B. Dreyfos, J. Backs, Theo Rimning west from Clementine; a distance of 100 feet. Applicant granted. Street superintendent was authorized to buy four of hay from M. Boisseren also to replace missing trees on Center and Los Alamos streets and to clear weeds about those now growing.
Mrs. Fred Backs enters friends on Thursday afternoon progressive whist. The after being rainy carriages called the guests. The first prize, a some vase was won by Mrs. ley. The second, a china bowl, by Miss Emma Klein Arthur Lewis won the consolio a glass vase. A general rain fell in the county on Tuesday. It rained quite heavily in some points but only slightly in others.
The application of the Los Angeles postmaster for street letter boxes in that city has been denied by the department for the reason that a compliance with the request would be followed by a shower of applications for a similar favor from other cities on this coast. There’s a reason for you!
The Board of Town Trustees held their regular session on Thursday. The report of the Marshal showed that only $4.90 of last year's taxes were uncollectable. The committee in the matter of the Broadway ditch reported that the consent of the Water Company was necessary to the removal of said ditch. The committee was ordered to consult with the Water Company and report at the next meeting. It was agreed to allow Nightwatchman Bohn $10 for the month of April. Permission was granted to B.F.Seibert, Chas.Wille and Richard Melrose to plant a row of trees on the street in front of their respective premises, seven feet from the line of the street.

The city election on Monday called out the largest vote ever polled in the city. Four hundred and twenty votes were registered. C.D. Rust, Jos. Fiscus, L. Z. Kroeger and Godfrey Stock are the new trustees; E. B. Merritt city clerk, John Hartung treasurer and N. F. Steadman marshal. At the regular trustees meeting on Tuesday Recorder J. S. Howard reported 11 cases in his court during the month, fines collected $85. The street superintendent reported various water connections made, new lights installed and Clementine street graded from Center to Broadway. Commissioners for widening Lemon street reported receiving agreements from property owners on the west side of street for a 6½ foot strip for sidewalks if city will pay all expenses. Mrs. C. Langenberger made application for closing two blind alleys in the Orange Grove tract at the corner of Clementine and Broadway. The records show that in 1887 McGuffy Bros. subdivided this tract which was the property of one Jordan. It was later purchased by A. Langenberger and guests sold to other parties. Ramona Pageant Preparing for Apr. 21 Opening
Residents of Hemet and San Jacinto are preparing to welcome a record opening day throng, as the Ramona Pageant Association reports the largest advance reservations in the history of the outdoor play.
Unlike previous years, more than a fourth of the advance reservations are for the opening day performance, on April 21, it is learned.
The colorful dramatization of Helen Hunt Jackson's immortal historical novel of early California, and the plight of the Indians, during the unsettled frontier days, has been viewed by more than 600,000 persons during the past 28 seasons the play has been staged.
The romantic beauty, the authentic natural setting, and the emotional dramatic impact of the play, has established the Ramona outdoor play as one of the great California outdoor spectacles.
Dorothy Bailey, of San Jacinto will play the title role for her sixth season, and the role of Alessandro, the Indian hero, will again be portrayed by Maurice Jarna, for his fifth year.
The cast of 350 is composed of residents of Hemet and San Jacinto, many returning to play roles in which they have appeared for ten years.

New VFW President Names Appointive Officers For Year
Florence Carroll, newly elected president of VFW Auxiliary, named her appointive officers for the coming year when the Auxiliary met in regular session on Monday, Mar. 26. Cecile Baxter, out-going president, presided. The appointive officers are: musician, Ivy Ryan; assistant musician, Vinnie Swallow; historian, Amy Whiteman; patriotic instructor, Ida Trendle; banner bearer, Mollie Claus; flag bearer, Emma Daniels; secretary, Elizabeth Aldrich, and color bearers, Elmo Richards, Cecile Baxter, Grace Dierberger and Adline Schroeder.
Cancer chairman, Florence Carroll reported that Auxiliary members had addressed 19,950 envelopes and had stuffed 17,455 Orange County Cancer Society use in their yearly drive. Carroll also assisted several in the office of the Cancer Society.
The hospital sewing group Mar. 19 with nine members sent. Bed soakers were made Sawtelle Hospital.
Americanism chairman, Wisser and president Baxter sent an American flag to Scout Pack No. 116 of Magna School, and Mollie Claus pressed a flag to Cub Scout Den N of Magnolia School, in the name the auxiliary.

With the group's president, Mrs. Fredrik Rusch, presiding, the foll-ing slate of officers were nominated and subsequently, elected: president; Mrs. Russell Hess; forst-president; Mrs. Kenton Wines, fond vice-president; Mrs Wil-iam Suiter; third vice president; Mrs. Lewis Pope; recording sec-ury; Mrs. Houston Kier; cor-ording secretary; Mrs. Arthur Tokey, Jr.; treasurer; Mrs. Nell to will play the title role for her sixth season, and the role of Alessandro, the Indian hero, will again be portrayed by Maurice Jara, for his fifth year.
