Concert Series Drive Is Sell-Out; To Begin In Oct. The Community Concert Association now being promoted by Anaheim and Garden Grove is a quick sell-out, according to Hal Thomas, president of the organization. He stated that nearly 1700 paid up members are on the rolls and a waiting list has been established. "The enthusiasm of the young people for good music is one of the most encouraging aspects of the one-week drive," stated Thomas. Concerts are scheduled to begin in October and continue through the winter season. The first of the concerts is to be held in Anaheim Union High School auditorium with the first artist to appear being Camilla Wicks, internationally known violinist. She resides in Anaheim but it will be her first appearance in her adopted home city. Confirmation will come from the New York headquarters of the Community Concert Association of the appearance of Miss Wicks and of the remainder of the schedule. The 190 volunteers making the week-long drive was under the chairmanship of George Haveles of Anaheim and J. D. MacGregor of Garden Grove. Hazel McHenry, YMCA Spring Program for Boys Is Underway Here The Anaheim YMCA spring program for boys in the 4th, 5th and 6th grades is now underway. One of the several special Saturday activities began last week, Mar. 24, with a track meet, according to Dwile Heggem, Saturday morning director. The following boys received ribbons for their events: Standing broad jump—Tom Watts, first; Hans Tromp, 2nd; Stanley Quast, 3rd; one hundred yard dash—Hans Tromp, 1st; John Gilpin, 2nd; Joe Louis, 3rd; 50 yard dash—Gerald Woodson, 1st; John Gilpin, 2nd; Joe Louis, 3rd; baseball throw—Don Maguire, 1st; Tom Watts, 2nd; Joe Louis, 3rd; hop, skip and jump—Wayne Goodwin, 1st; John Gilpin, 2nd; and Ken Mans, 3rd; running broad jump—Hans Tromp, 1st; Gary Yellis, 2nd; Tom Watts, 3rd. The winning team was the Loara Lions Gra-Y Club. According to Steve Holden, boys' work secretary, a special Easter Vacation fun day will be held Saturday, Apr. 7. This event is co-sponsored by the Anaheim Baxter, president, and the Ana-Luncheon Optimist Club, Cliff heim YMCA. The day will begin at 9 a.m. with chapel, games and movie. At 10:15 the boys will swim at the high school pool. Following that there will be a trip to O'Neal Park, near Trabuco Canyon, for lunch and hiking. The boys will return at 3:30. More on... "Journey" Hazel McHenry, Wife of Business Man, Passes Away Mrs. Hazel McHenry, wife of Ernest E. McHenry, owner-operator of Anaheim Pet Store on E. Center Street for many years, passed away suddenly Friday afternoon, Mar. 23, at Santa Ana Community hospital. She became ill Thursday evening and was taken to the hospital immediately. She was a native of Kansas where she was born 59 years ago, coming to Anaheim in 1943. The family home is at 115 E. North Street. She was a member of the Christian Church. Survivors other than her husband, Ernest E. McHenry, are her mother, Mrs. Angle Elsele of Anaheim; one brother, Harold S. Elsele of Fresno, and a sister, Mrs. R. R. Kaiser of Odessa, Texas. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the chapel of Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars, the Rev. A. J. Casebeer, pastor of the Christian Church, officiating. Interment was in Melrose Abbey mausoleum. Mrs. Grace Holihan Death on Thursday Mrs. Grace Holihan, 69 years of age, passed away Thursday of last week at her home at 215 E. South Street. She was a native of Chicago and had lived on Anaheim 15 months. She was a member of St. Bóni-face Catholic Church. Surviving are her husband, Thomas E. Holihan of the home; three sons, Thomas T., William H., both of Chicago, and Edward M. Holihan of Florida; one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Springsteen of Anaheim and five grandchildren. Broadway P-TA Hears School Psychologist Speak The Broadway P-TA at the last regular meeting, had as their guest speaker Thomas E. Smith, school psychologist, who chose as his topic "General Emotional Problems of Children". A rather lengthy question and answer period followed. Miss E. Kate Rea gave an appropriate inspirational message, one especially on choosing people for public office as this year is election year for local, city, state and national governments. The newly-elected officers are president, Mrs. Cruz Sandoval; vice-president, Mrs. George Bell; recording secretary, Mrs. Ward Erickson; corresponding secretary, Mrs. Roy Pina; treasurer, Mrs. E. F. Arciniaga; auditor, Mr. Roy Pina; historian, Mrs. McConaghy. Mrs. Jolly's second grade won the room count, by having the most parents attending the meeting. A report was given by Mrs. Ward Erickson on welfare, also stressing the need of increasing the welfare budget for next year. The Assistance League of Anaheim aided greatly recently. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Disbennett's second grade room mothers. Luke F. White Claimed by Death Luke F. White passed away Saturday, Apr. 7. Wallace Sunday, Mar. 25, passing away at her home at 315 E. Adele Street. She was born in Kansas 78 years ago and had been a resident of Anaheim since 1941. She was a member of Southern Methodist Church. Survivors are two sons, Edgar of Kingsburg, Cal., and Earl Wallace of Anaheim; two daughters, Miss Fannie Wallace of Anhelm and Mrs. Mary Baldwin of Escondido; two sisters, Mrs. Jessie F. Center street last Monday. He was born in Iowa 87 years ago. Mr. Franz was a barber by trade and had spent his life at his profession until ill health forced him to retire. He will be remembered by early day residents having owned and trained two trichies which he drove through Anaheim, hitched to a two-wheeled cart. He was active in civic affairs of Anaheim for many years. Survivors are his wife, Gerde M. Franz of the home; free sons, Roswell (Ross) of Anaheim, Willard, Jr., of Santa Ana, and Herman of Hamilton Bay, Calif.; three daughters, Gladys Clapp of Anaheim, Vivian Kraemer of Chino, Mrs. Thelma Hoel of Mesa,riz., who is unable to be here in the funeral; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. WHITE TEMPLE METHODIST A German Requiem by Johannes Brahms will be sung by a 30-voice choir this Maundy Thursday evening at 7 o'clock. Marvin Fennema, minister of music, will direct the hour-long concert which is to feature several prominent soloists. At two o'clock this afternoon, communion will be available in the church parlors for those who cannot attend the evening musical when communion will be served. Easter Sunday worship services have been scheduled for the morning hours of 8, 9, 10 and 11 when the Rev. Earl Kernahan will officiate at identical rites in the new sanctuary. His topic will be "Alive for Evermore." Child care will be provided for all children of nursery and kindergarten ages at each of the services.
