ANAHEIM GAZETTE Anahaim, Calif., Thurs. Jan. 26, 1956 MUSHROOM SPAGHETTI SAUCE 1 cup chopped onion 3 cloves garlic 2 cans (3 to 4 oz. each) mushrooms ¼ cup salad oil 1 can (1 lb. 13 oz.) tomatoes 2 cans (6 oz. each) tomato paste 1½ teaspoons parsley flakes 1 teaspoon salt ½ teaspoon basil leaves ¼ teaspoon oregano Few grains cayenne 1 teaspoon sugar Cook onion, minced garlic and drained mushrooms (save liquid) in oil until lightly browned. Add mushroom liquid, tomatoes, tomato paste, seasonings and sugar. Bring to boil; reduce heat and simmer until thickened, about 1 hour. Stir occasionally. Makes about 5 cups sauce, (6 to 8 servings). Additions: With the onion, garlic and mushrooms, brown chopped canned luncheon meat or ground beef. Or, about 10 minutes before the sauce is done, add canned boned chicken or chunk style tuna.
