Jan. 10, 1954 NEW FRUIT TREES Home orchards are doubly satisfying experiences for California gardeners for the fruit tree is a thing of beauty for the garden or yard and a source of eating pleasure as well. Newcomers in the fruit tree family are are Gold Dust Peach and the Burmosa plum, announces the California Association of Nurserymen. The Gold Dust peach tree is a very early bearing free- stone. Burmosa plum is also an early bearer with creamy amber flesh and yellow skin. It's freestone. Planting methods for fruit trees vary. In some cases you can use dwarf varieties of the fruits you wish to plant. Or three-in-one planting, combining three varieties of one fruit in one hole, can be done. And fruit trees can be planted in the usual manner also. Whichever way you choose, now's the time to be putting in the trees. If you're planting apples or pears plant in heavy, moist soil. Most other fruit trees will do best in a well-drained sandy loam. Here are some fruit tree varieties that can be successfully planted three-in-one or individually: Gold Dust peach, Early Elberta and Rio Oso Gem. In nectarines combine John River, Gold Mine and Quetta. Burmosa planted with its sister plums Santa Rosa and Mariposa makes a fine home orchard selection. In planting apricots try Early Gold, Blenheim and Perfection together.
