Eleven European Countries Visited By B. Franklin P-TA
The Delft Cathedral in Holland, Castles on the Rhine, Vienna Woods, Blue Danube, Vatican, St. Peters, and the American cemetery at Anzio Beach with its 11,000 white marble crosses were among scenes viewed by the Benjamin Franklin P-T.A. Thursday night, Nov. 17th, when Wilbert H. Bonney, principal, showed pictures of a seven weeks' tour of Europe last summer.
Touring with a group of YMCA delegates from the United States, Mr. and Mrs. Bonney visited eleven countries in Europe and the British Isles. Theirs was the first large group of Americans to be permitted to enter Yugoslavia in seventeen years. "We found Yugoslavia to be very depressing because of the extreme poverty," said Mr. Bonney, "and it is an example of what Communism will do to a country."
Members were enthusiastic in their praise of Mr. Bonney's highly entertaining presentation and amusing narration.
The business meeting which preceded the program was called to order by Mrs. Luther Reynolds, president, with the inspirational thought read by Mrs. John Bowman.
A total membership to date of 609 was announced by Mrs. L. C. Fisher, chairman of the membership committee, with the member ship contest award going to Mrs. Betz's first grade room.
Plans have been made for a rag, newspaper and magazine drive on December 7, 8, 9 and 10.
