California Bank Ups Payment Rate California Bank will increase to 2% the interest rate on all savings accounts beginning Jan. 1, 1956. The increase comes as a result of the general firming of interest rates throughout the country during the past year plus the ability of the bank to keep savings funds more fully employed. Frank L. King, president of California Bank, said. The new rate will apply to savings accounts of any size. The Savanna P-TA will meet on Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 22, with Supt. Arthur Nieblas speaking on the primary system. Mrs. Clyde Spicer will preside. YOU CAN ALWAYS SPOT AN EXPERT When you're driving along the open road... or on city streets, you can always spot the expert behind the wheel. He might be a teenager in a small car or Ded out for a drive with the family. Whether it's a roadster or a big sedan... you can tell the expert by his smooth driving... his road judgment. He always travels at reasonable speeds. Not too fast... not too slow. He's sure of himself... sure because he's careful. Safe Drivers Make Safe Highways Make every day S-D day (EDITORIAL) Most of us are lucky enough to be born with American citizenship. Helen Kolesz chose it. And being an American meant so much to this little old immigrant lady that back in 1941, when the bombs fell on Pearl Harbor, she volunteered her time and her labor to help serve and protect her adopted land. Neglecting the thriving real estate business she had worked so hard to build up, she became a salesman for America's War Savings Bonds. During the war years, her patriotism and un-tiring effort resulted in the sale of more than $5 million worth of Bonds. Bonds which she knew meant strength for her beloved country and security for the people she was so happy to call her fellow citizens. Bonds which meant victory in war, prosperity in peace. At the age of 72, Helen Kolesz died last fall, remembered gratefully by her government and by her countless friends and neighbors in Lorain, Ohio. This month, when the President proclaims Citizenship Day, we might all give thought to the truth that Helen Kolesz understood so well: That making ourselves and our families secure is one of the most practical ways of keeping our country secure. Let's take advantage of a privilege which only an American citizen may enjoy—and begin investing in America through our good, safe, interest-earning United States Savings Bonds! Safe as America—Buy U. S. Savings Sitting It Out On Sidelines Silver Tea Results In Church Funds Mrs. F. H. Leonard raised nearly $20 for Circle No. 2 of the Christian church by holding a silver tea at her home with a display of 150 of her antique dolls. The money will be used for missionary work abroad. Mrs. Leonard is president of the Anaheim Doll club and initiated the private showing at the request of her friends who were anxious to see her entire collection. The dolls were beautifully dressed in antique costumes. Anaheim Gazette Theodore R. Kuchel, Publisher J. E. "Andy" Mallep, Adv.
