'Indonesia Today' At Anaheim Forum
Next Monday, Oct. 24, the Anaheim Evening Forum will present Dr. Lester Beck and his film entitled "Indonesia Today" as the fourth of its fall series of lectures on world affairs.
Lester F. Beck has captured on color film the very essence of modern Indonesia without neglecting any of its romantic traditions. He takes us through Sumatra, Bali and Java to meet these happy, forward-looking people in their cities and their villages, to admire their superb native arts, crafts, and music, to participate in their lively festivals and ceremonies, to share in the extravagant beauty of their homeland. Picturesque, exotic, with all the subtle flavor of the Orient, this young republic has patterned its hard-won independence from the Dutch in the same democratic ideals that have shaped our own country.
Dr. Beck, professor of psychology at the University of Southern California, journeyed to the Pacific islands in 1953 to serve as an adviser on problems of mass communication. He is a specialist in documentary film production with many successful films to his credit. In Indonesia, as a guest of the Government, he was given every opportunity to film the beauty and drama he observed everywhere, producing a color-film record of breathtaking brilliance.
The Forum meets in the auditorium of Anaheim Union High school, 811 West Center street. There is no admission charge for al, third grade; Gerald E. Petus, fourth grade; Martha Cooper, special training class.
Robert Shank, asst. supt. of Anaheim Elementary schools was a special guest.
