Why, no one seems to know. The ocelot, about twice the size of fells domesticus, is described by Webster as an American spotted cat, ranging from Texas to Patagonia. From the actions of the things they can just keep right on ranging. Members of the club, dressed in green uniforms with leopard-skin belts, brought their "pets" to the picnic site in sturdy cages, some made with 5/8ths-inch iron bars. Handlers all wore leather gloves, and when their beasts were outside the cages, they were restrained by long leashes. The ocelot is not what could be safely called a gentle pet. When the master makes as if to stroke its fur (as cat-lovers are wont to do) the animal responds to this proffer of tender affection by rolling over on its back, chomping its long incisors into the master's hand, and clawing spiritedly with four needle-studded claws at his sponsor and benefactor, all this accompanied by a hideous rasping growl. The owner of an ocelot stoutly defends his pet, however, despite its perpetual belligerence. "Look at that animal's beautiful fur," he will say proudly, clenching his fist to stop the flow of blood from a mangled thumb. When left alone and not being "petted" these big cats slink back (From an Eagle Shield MkII by WALDO HUNTER, P.S.B.) TS yd.
