LAW IN ACTION
ARE YOU PROTECTED?
Some people — but not you — wait until their house burns or they go to a hospital before they ask their insurance man: "Does my policy cover all this?"
That depends — strictly upon what your policy says in black and white. As a rule the company does not have to pay for anything else.
Is this harsh? Well, the written contract is your best protection. That's why the law requires it. What earthly good would a spoken life insurance contract be? When it falls due, you won't be there to report the agent's promises. It must be in writing, or not at all.
So when you ask if your insurance contract covers say, your hospital bills, just read it. It tells you.
Note, too, any section on "exceptions and exclusions." They tell you what things the contract does not cover.
What does your car insurance cover? For how much? If your policy does not cover you for all the damage you do in an accident, who pays for the rest? You do.
Did you know that most fire insurance contracts cover you for damage only up to the real value of your house, no matter for how much you insure it?
Today some homeowners face the opposite risk, under-insurance. Due to inflation, their houses may have gone up many times in value. But has their insurance coverage kept pace? No? Well then, should their houses burn, they can get only what their policy calls for; no matter how much more they lose.
So read your policies again. Say, lonight.

It's the 4-Door Rivierathe stunning new hit
of America's Hardtops
When Buick introduced America's first hardtop—the Riviera—folks went for it in a big way, and fast.
They liked the Convertible look of this 2-door beauty—long, low and rakish. They liked the added security of the steel roof over-head. And they certainly liked the absence of center posts in the side window areas—which gave a completely unbroken view left and right.
People liked it all so well that, over the past six years, they made the Riviera the biggest-selling hardtop in the world, bar none. And it still is.
New Buick has come up with another great advance in hardtops—the 4-Door Riviera—and it's a sensational hit.
It has everything the original 2-Door Riviera has—plus separate doors for rear-seat passengers, and a whale of a lot more room for them.
Rock-solid half-pillars on either side are what latch the front doors and hinge the rear ones. So there's no center post above the door line—and a completely open sweep of view to both sides.
And the roominess provided by this gorgeous new hardtop is really something—over 9 inches more hiproom and 5 inches more legroom in the rear.
Why don't you come see this brand-new kind of automobile that's heading up the parade of the hottest-selling line of Buicks in history?

Use packaged, pre-cooked rice and canned salmon for a hearty,
nourishing salad-supper that is both cool in the eating and cool in
the making, for no cooking—thus no heating up the kitchen—is involved.
Salmon Salad
2/3 cup packaged pre-cooked rice
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup boiling water
3/4 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Dash of pepper
1 cup (7- or 8-ounce can) salmon,
drained and flaked
1/2 cup diced celery
3 tablespoons sliced stuffed olives
Add pre-cooked rice and salt to boiling water in saucepan. Mix
just to moisten all rice. Cover and remove from heat. Let stand 13
minutes. Then uncover and let cool to room temperature.
About 1 hour before serving, combine mayonnaise, lemon juice,
and pepper, mixing well. Combine salmon, celery, and olives in a
bowl. Stir in mayonnaise mixture. Then add the rice and mix lightly
with a fork. Chill. Serve on crisp salad greens. Makes about 3-1/2
cups, or 4 servings.
