Highway Patrol to Intensify Vigilance Over Memorial Day An anticipated record flow of traffic over Memorial Day will require intensified patrolling of all streets and highways. This announcement from the California Highway Patrol is based on last year's experience when 36 persons met death in traffic collisions in California during the Memorial Holiday period. "With over six million motor vehicles available to roll on California's streets and highways this weekend we can expect crowded traffic lanes. Particular dangerous are those over-anxious drivers ready to violate any rule to gain some advantage," declared Patrol Commissioner B. R. Caldwell. "To combat this expected problem, the Patrol will exert every effort during this potential high accident period to keep this year's toll to a minimum." Caldwell urged every driver to obey all the traffic rules and regulations this coming holiday week-end. Particular attention should be paid to the following: Stay in line—cutting other drivers off in an attempt to gain some slight advantage is illegal and dangerous. Keep right—use the left lane on multi-lane highways only for passing or when preparing to turn left. Yield the right-of-way—Drivers obey all the traffic rules and regulations this coming holiday week-end. Particular attention should be paid to the following: Stay in line—cutting other drivers off in an attempt to gain some slight advantage is illegal and dangerous. Keep right—use the left lane on multi-lane highways only for passing or when preparing to turn left. Yield the right-of-way—Drivers who yield the right-of-way seldom get into accident trouble. Watch your speed—fast driving leads to accidents and injury or possible death. Remember that speed kills so slow down and live.
