How to honor a hero
(A Memorial Day Message for Americans)
How to honor a hero
(A Memorial Day Message for Americans)
It is thrilling to watch the breeze catch the flag as you hang it out on Memorial Day.
And it makes you feel good to decorate the monuments to the men this day honors.
Every town in the land has one or more monuments in their memory—bronze soldiers, steel cannon, big granite stones.
But their greatest memorial is one they themselves fought and bleed and died to build and preserve: the United States of America.
And the best we can do to honor them lies in strengthening this living memorial, our nation.
You do this most simply and easily when you invest in our country's Savings Bonds. For your ownership of these Bonds not only makes you a more independent American; it also makes America stronger, more stable and secure.
So continue to invest regularly and steadily in United States Series E Savings Bonds, holding them until they pay you their full maturity value.
If you have not been buying Bonds, the day after Memorial Day week end is a good time to begin。
