ANAHEIM GAZETTE, Page 6 INDUSTRIAL SECTION DELCO BATTERY PLANT A GROWING CONCERN HERE Delco Battery plant, operated by Delco-Remy, is one of the fine industrial plants of the Anaheim family of new industries. In operation for more than a year, plans are moving forward for gradual increases in schedules. Two hundred and seventy employees are now with the plant. Both the 6-volt and 12-volt batteries for passenger cars are in production and the plant is now producing original equipment batteries for all General Motors cars and trucks assembled in General Motors plants in South Gate, Van Nuys, Oakland and Arlington, Texas. Replacement and service batteries, according to R. A. Daily, resident plant manager, for 11 western states are also being supplied by the Anaheim operation, with the distribution and sales of these units handled through United Motors Service. Hure Expansion Program S. E. Skinner, who has group executive responsibility for General Motors in 28 cities, stated that the Anaheim plant has been a part of the expansion program which this firm has pushed forward since the end of World War II with the expenditure of some two and one-half billion dollars for new plants and im proved facilities of all types. Ten plants manufacturing items relating to this operation are in Anderson, Ind., where starting motors, generators, horns, ignition coils, distributors and other items of electrical equipment are built. Battery plants are also located at Muncie, Ind., and New Brunswick, N. J., in addition to Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Bruce this city, will sail for Hawaiian cation on May 4. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Smith 8686 Lincoln Ave., welcomed lb. 13 oz. baby boy in Fuller Cottage hospital on April 13. THE TAX MAP above shows how much the Upper Colorado River Basin Project bills, now before Congress, would cost the taxpayers of each state in the nation. These bills call for a number of large dams on the upper reaches of the Colorado River and numerous irrigation projects in the states of Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. National tax authorities say that hidden subsidies in these so-called "reclamation" project bills would cost the people of the United States more than $4 billion in added taxes. The total cost to taxpayers is based on repayment schedules presented to Senate and House Interior Committees by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. The cost to each state is based on computations by The Tax Foundation, New York City and Washington, D.C. COOLING... REFRESHING... WHOLESOME... QUICK FROZEN M.C.P. The Chrysler experimental gas turbine engine is the first to successfully power a production type passenger car and the first to solve the long-standing gas turbine problems of high fuel consumption and tremendous exhaust heat. The gas turbine engine is being test-driven on city streets and at the Chrysler Engineering Proving Grounds in a 1955 Plymouth Belvedere sedan. There remain many metallurgical and manufacturing problems to be solved if gas turbine engines are to become the automotive power plants of the future. FOOLED HIS BRIDE A young doctor had just hung out his shingle and had very few patients. When the telephone rang one evening he was excited and sure that it was a patient. It was merely a former fellow interne who wanted to know if he would care to make a fourth at bridge. The doctor decided he would. "Is it an important case?" asked his wife. "Important? I'll say its import." POWERFUL STUFF The farmer had a sick mule and called a vet. The doctor examined the mule and gave him a shot, whereupon the mule got up and raced down the road. "How much for the shot?" asked the farmer. "Two dollars," the vet replied. "Well," demanded the farmer, "give me a five-dollar shot—I've got to catch the mule!" Before going, George learned that there were 50 nurses on the staff. Always a gallant soul, he ordered a dainty corsage sent to each nurse. CHIKSAN COMPANY Wherever unlimited flexibility is required in the handling of fluids, it is very likely there are Chlksan ball-bearing swivel joints to meet the need. At Chlksan's headquarters and main plant in Brea, 290 skilled men and women are engaged in the precision manufacture of these swivel joints for world industry. Most of Chlksan's employees live and play, as well as work, in the Orange Empire, and spend their annual payroll of over a million and a quarter dollars in the area. They are proud of the Chlksan name and the important contribution they are making toward the preservation of our incentive system and to the national defense. The flow of enterprise relies on Chlksan. Now, Chlksan needs qualified mechanical engineers to handle important assignments in product development and application.
