Project Anaheim Will Welcome Two Hawaiian Youth
The Rev. Frank E. Butterworth of White Temple Methodist church has announced that two Hawaiian young people of Japanese extraction will live and work with members of the Young People's Fellowship in Anaheim this summer. They are being sent by the youth group of Harris Memorial Methodist church of Honolulu which will finance their trip from the proceeds of Japanese movie shows at the Nippon theater in Honolulu.
The delegates, each 16 years of age, are to be Margaret Murakami and Kenneth Kaglyama.
"Project Anaheim" as the plan is called, originated last summer when the Rev. and Mrs. Butterworth vacationed in the islands with Methodist leaders there and discussed the values of work camps and the exchange of students between countries.
A local committee headed by Sue Graves is making arrangements for housing so that the visitors can live with a different family each week to get as large a sample of life on the mainland as possible. The schedule being planned is to include attendance at the annual conference at the University of Redlands in June, two work camps among Indians and Mexicans, a junior high Christian Adventure camp and a high school MYF Institute as well as participation in local group meetings and outings for the 10 weeks they are to be here.
