Junior Ebell to Hold Spring Benefit
The Junior Ebell Society will hold a spring benefit on March 5, according to plans made at the January general meeting. It is to be a double event, a morning brunch and an afternoon dessert, with a fashion show at each session. Clothes will be furnished by Edna McMasters of Fullerton and shoes by Paul Allen, also of Fullerton.
According to reservation chairman, Mrs. Richard Matteer (KE 5-6424), tickets are priced at $1.50 and proceeds will be spent for a tape recorder for the Orange County Juvenile hall. Any surplus will be added to the $1000 already donated by the organization to the Mother Colony Hospital fund.
Committee heads for the benefit were announced as follows: General chairman, Mrs. Robert Loomis; publicity, Mrs. Leonard Bouas; social service, Mrs. Norman Tempus; treasurer, Mrs. Robert Graham; reservations, Mrs. Richard Matteer; cleanup official board members; table set up, Mrs. U. G. Beal; a.m. decorating, Mrs. Ivan Mills; p.m. decorating, Mrs. Raymond Heller; raffle, Mrs. John Crane; advertising, Mrs. Lowe Williams; a.m. favors, Mrs. Donald Bigler; p.m. favors, Mrs.
People and Things
Pretty cakes baked and decorated by Mrs. Muriel Mackey were among the highlights of the stork shower given last week for Mrs. Myles Bradley of 1618 Redwood Ave. Friends of Mrs. Bradley gathered at the home of Mrs. Harold Daoust, 118 E. South St., to shower her with gifts. Co-hostess for the evening was Mrs. Paul Williams. Canasta and other games were enjoyed with prizes going to Mrs. Nora Harkins and Miss Velva Brookman.
Annual Rally Day was celebrated by the White Temple Methodist church school on Sunday with George Folwer; a.m. food, Mrs. Walter Kirkhart; p.m. food, Mrs. Harold Rankin; table return, Mrs. Leighton Miller; a.m. serving, Mrs. Wilber Wright; p.m. serving, Mrs. Kenneth Heuler.
These arrangements were made during a business session which was turned over to the welfare chairman, Mrs. Norman Tempus.
While business was conducted and during the social hour which followed, members stuffed envelopes for the Orange County Society for Crippled Children and Adults Easter Seal Drive.
Mrs. Charles Bush and Mrs. Mark Stevenson poured at two tea tables which were gaily decorated with pink and peppermint camellias and cat-tails. Mrs. Matteer was tea hostess chairman and her committee was as follows: Mimes, Earle Flanders, Wallace a dedication service for teachers.
Since the completion of the first phase of the church building program, two hour church school sessions are now being held each Sunday. The first session is from 9 to 11 a.m., and the second from 10 to 12. During Rally day exercises, nearly 500 members of the church school received their new stewardship envelopes.
The past week, the Rev. Patricia Pierse, pastor of St Boniface church was notified of his elevation to the rank of Monsignor in Prelate-Domestie. He has headed the local parish for the last four years.
Club president Helen Relster led plans for an Ikette-sponsored turkey dinner open to the pub on Feb. 24 when her group met at the Investment in Youth Building last week. This benefit event raises funds for club projects on the chairmanship of Mrs. Held. Tickets may be purchased from any member. Guests introduced at the meeting were Claus Stroud and Lala Key. Arrangements were made to hold a Hat Parade at the Lincoln school P-TA meeting on Feb. 9. Mrs. Bill Wick was in charge of conservation games during the evening and refreshments were served by Mrs. Herbert Myers and Mrs. Ralph Cox.
An overnight snow party at Forest Home was recently enjoyed by members of Job's Daughters, Bethel No. 5.
John Morley, correspondent and global reporter, presented an informative talk entitled "Peace—its prospects, and its price," at an evening meeting of the Ebell society on Monday night, Feb. 7. One of the most interesting programs of the year was planned in observance of guest night. A quartet of musicians, "The Four Tones," entertained with hit tunes skillfully arranged for their marimbas, vibraharp, piano, bass drum and trumpet.
