Of People ... and things BY JOAN S. WHITE A grand total of 3,835,242 automobile, trucks, and buses entered California through border quarantine stations during the year 1954. This figure represents an increase of 70,921 over that for 1953, when 3,750,321 motor vehicles entered the state. Newly elected to office at St. Michael's Episcopal church are Hector Nyhus, senior warden; L. W. Allen, junior warden; Philip Gove, assistant junior warden; Robert Root, clerk, and Miss Marjorie Pibel, treasurer. New members of the vestry are Ernest Rose, William Shira, Richard Prendergast, H. Willis Watkins, Franklin Albert and Philip Gove. When the Anaheim Junior Assistance League met recently at the home of Mrs. Jack Sulter, plans were initiated for a gala spring dance to be held on April 30 at the Santa Ana Country Club. Invitations are soon to be in the mail, with donations to be $4 per couple. Further arrangements are to be made at the Feb. meeting at the home of Mrs. Robert Truxaw, 807 S. Los Angeles street. Among Anaheim parents making the acquaintance of new little sons and daughters last week are Mr. and Mrs. Donny Kear, 11921 Santa Rosalle St., a girl; Mr. and Mrs. Augustine Dize, 10931 Harcourt St., a girl; Mr. and Mrs. Sherwood Anderson of 825 La Palma, a boy. It's a boy for Mr. and Mrs. Grover Bush, 733 N. Olive St. They welcomed the 6 lb. 9 oz infant in Fullerton Cottage hospital on Jan. 18. Weekend of Jan. 21 brought 5 new babies to Anaheim. Its a boy for Mr. and Mrs. John Contreras of 225 E. La Palma St., and for Mr. and Mrs. Ora Beach of 12370 E. Ball Rd. Getting acquainted with baby girls are Mr. and Mrs. Glenn DeBord of 7721 Monroe St., Mr. and Mrs. Henry M. Hale, 10521 Lowden St., and Mr. and Mrs. Willard M. Lagg, 14433 E. Center street. February 12 has been the date set for the marriage of Miss Alberta Marie Simeon and James Howard Heffron, according to the announcement made by the parents of the bride-elect, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Simeon of 708 N. East St. Her fiance is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Heffron of this city. The couple plan to establish their first home in Westwood Village since the bridegroom-to-be is engaged in post-graduate studies at UCLA. Mrs. Albert Launer, well known in Anaheim club circles for her interesting program presentations, appeared before the Magnolia Study club recently to review the book, "Love Is Eternal" by Irving Stone. She also gave side lights of a trip to Washington, D.C., where she attended the military funeral services for four-star general John Xannon, and attended Senate sessions to see California Will Knowland and Tom Kuchel in action. Mrs. William Ramm was hostess at her S. Gilbert street home and was assisted by Mrs. Erick Winger and Mrs. Ed Carson.
