His father, a Baptist minister before him, a refugee from Bolshevistic Russia in the early twenties, brought his family to the New World, like the Pilgrims, that he might not only have freedom to worship, but also the other freedoms we Americans boast about. With the example before him, young Berthold took up the ministry, attending school at the North American Baptist Seminary, Rochester, N. Y., Westminster college and the University of Pittsburgh, Pa. After pastorates in Canada and Pennsylvania, he came to Anaheim in May, 1951, to be pastor of Bethel Baptist church. He has taken an active part in the civic as well as religious affairs of our community, having been chosen chairman of the Religious Education Department of the Association of Christian Churches, whose main duty is to have complete charge of leased Time Religious Life of our city schools.
