Reports on State General Fund
Cash condition of the State's General Fund as of August 31 was reported Sept. 20 by State Controller Robert C. Kirkwood, who said $100,141,632 was the amount of cash on hand at that time.
This compared to $149,189,053 on August 31 of 1953, and $48,942,420 on July 31 of this year, Kirkwood said.
The Controller explained that the cash in the State's treasury is not a "surplus" and cannot be construed as such. It is merely the amount of funds available to meet the State's General Fund obligations, and its fluctuations reflect the amount of demand during the previous month, and the total revenue accruing to the State.
First two months of the fiscal year, Kirkwood said, showed a slight decrease in the amount of sales and use taxes collected by the State. The revenues this source were $658,889 than for the first two months of the previous fiscal year.
A total of $130,411,884 is restricted revenue was depleted in the state treasury for the month period, Kirkwood said.
Pretty, Sally Ann Scharfe, 19, popular coed at Mt. San Antonio College, has been selected as queen to rule over the festivities during the 17 days of the 27th annual Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona, Sept. 17 through Oct. 3. She will be surrounded by her court of ten lovely princesses. Sally, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Scharfe of Marte, is an outdoor girl and an accomplished horsewoman.

You’d find it hard to list all the ways electricity serves you in your home—and even harder to list the services you get away from home.
Let’s take, for instance, where you work. It is safe to say that electricity brings you light for seeing, air-conditioning for comfort, and power for machines which help you do your work more easily.
Today there isn’t a store, office or factory which doesn’t have at least some of these electrical aids. They’re an important part of your electric service—helping to make your living better, every day.
