YLI Group Hears Welfare Leader
The Rev. Fr. William Barry, head of the Catholic Welfare Bureau for Orange county, addressed last week's meeting of the Young Ladies Institute at the Odd Fellows Hall. As he described the work of the Community Chest he said: "A community effort such as this is the practice of charity."
Father Barry was introduced by club president, Mrs. Ray Hudson, who preside at the business session. After the reports of various committee heads, Rose Garbino, Institute Deputy from Santa Ana, gave a talk. Grand Director Margaret Young also addressed the group.
Members voted to send $150 to the emergency polio march of dimes fund.
For the social hour, the dining hall was nicely decorated with bouquets of fall flowers, and dessert was served. The group will meet again on Sept. 20. On Sept. 30, Mrs. Maxine Pitcher will be hostess at the monthly card party at her home at 621 South Palm street. For reservations see Mrs. Charles Strickroth.
