IN THE DAYS OF LONG AGO
From the Piles of Anaheim Gazette
By MRS. HENRY KUCHEL
Stingarees seem to be unusually plentiful this year and the have made their appearance in parts of the coast where they have never been known before. It may be proper here to correct an erronious impression which has gone abroad relative to the presence of these pests at Anaheim Landing. It is true that they are somewhat numerous in the breakers, but no one now thinks of bathing where but in the fine bay was formed by the closing old-channel last winter. The no stingarees in this bay, other respects, it is much and safer to bathe in the surf.
The railroad authorities now under consideration a sition to reduce the fare by Anaheim and Los Angeles to the round-trip. It is believed they will see the necessity of ing the proposed reduction.

of Republican voters was also appointed.
A correspondent, writing under
date of July 19 from Savannah,
says: A grain stack of C. J. Baldwin's caught fire this afternoon from the steam thresher. A part of the separator, a wagon and other machinery, with about 150 centals of grain and some hay which belonged to Meyers, a tenant of Baldwin's, were burned. The stuble burned as far north as the road, and this prevented further advance.

The bees are playing havoc with
the grapes and other fruit in Anaheim. The injury is becoming manfestly more serious every day, and there does not seem to be any remedy. It is useless to enact an ordinance requiring all bees to be removed from the town limits because they will travel five or six miles in search of feed.
Mr. Beeber received yesterday a fine load of peaches from Mr.
Strodthoff's orchard. This fruit is abundant this year and what is more to the point the size and flavor are superior to any which have ever been marketed in Anaheim.

A number of the largest orange growers of Placentia have formed a Fruit Growers League, which is to be a branch of the Central League recently formed in Los Angeles. Isaac Naylor, general field manager of the Central League, delivered an address in favor of the organization if the growers will stand together. They can bring about a lower freight rate, cheaper iceing and better time across the continent for shipments.
A. T. Pendleton was elected president, W. E. McFadden, secretary and A. S. Bradford, A. T. Pendleton, A. Pierotte, Wm. Crowther, C. C. Chapman and R. H. Gilman were elected delegates to the next session of the Central body meeting in Los Angeles in two weeks. The growers here ship about 600 carloads of oranges annually.
Eddie Boege and Rerman Stern went hunting doves up River Canyon a few days ago, going in the former's auto. When 15 miles up the Canyon the machine decided the closed season was not over and refused to budge. The boys had a six mile walk to the nearest farm house, where a rig was secured for the homeward trip. The next day Claude Stough went up and hauled the infernal machine back home.
A public joint installation of the Santa Ana, Anaheim and Westminster Lodges of the Fraternal Brotherhood was held Friday night at Elks Hall, Santa Ana. Sup Chap, Bachelor of Fresno, delivered an address on the object and benefits of the order. Officers installed for the local order were as follows: President, Mrs. Boyd; vice-president, W. B. Skinher; secretary, Elsie Clabaugh; chaplin, Alice Hatfield; sergeant, Roy Clabaugh; Master-at-Arms, Roland Goble; inner door keeper, Frank Booth; outer door keeper, Harry Blackfon.
Today Republican primaries occur throughout the county. Upon the selection of delegates depends the nomination of a candidate for state senator and assemblyman, and perhaps from this district. Let there be a full vote and then let the party rally to the support of the candidates.
Mrs. R. Melrose and two daughters, Mrs. Fred Backs, Jr., and Miss Winifred Melrose, departed on Monday for a sojourn of several weeks at Anaheim.

METRO will provide Nations most rapid Mass Transportation.
Metropolitan Coach Lines has embarked on a six-year program of development and improvement. This program, once it is approved by the public bodies, will provide the most rapid urban mass transportation in the United States or Canada.
64 MINUTE RUN REDUCED TO 36 MINUTES
One illustration is the Hollywood Freeway. Formerly, the time from North Hollywood to downtown Los Angeles by rail was 64 minutes. Bus substitution, with equal seating capacity, reduced the time by 14 minutes, using the completed portion of the Hollywood Freeway. Now, with the remaining sections available, we will save another 9 minutes—and still another 5 minutes, through a change in downtown routing. Thus, we will have a total elapsed time of about 36 minutes from North Hollywood. (It has already been necessary to increase the buses on this run from 17 to 30 to handle increased patronage.)
FASTER SERVICE TO ALL AREAS
Metro is now giving much improved service to Norwalk, Santa Ana and Orange over the Santa Ana Freeway. The Ramona Freeway is being utilized for people east of Los Angeles. The Hollywood Boulevard express, operating over the Hollywood
FASTER SERVICE TO ALL AREAS
Metro is now giving much improved service to Norwalk, Santa Ana and Orange over the Santa Ana Freeway. The Ramona Freeway is being utilized for people east of Los Angeles. The Hollywood Boulevard express, operating over the Hollywood Freeway, will save 15 minutes over the present rail schedule. With buses replacing rail service, the Hollywood and Harbor Freeways will reduce time substantially for the Glendale-Burbank line. Long Beach service will operate over the Long Beach Freeway when that is completed.
FASTER THAN NEW YORK'S SUBWAYS
The freeways planned for this area lend themselves to mass rapid transit. As an interesting comparison, the New York subway has a maximum speed of 30 miles per hour, and an average speed of 18 miles per hour. Metro coaches on freeways make the same maximum speed as automobiles, about 55 miles per hour. We do considerably better than New York, and actually, no other American city has our advantages for fast transportation.
METRO'S PROGRAM
Metropolitan Coach Lines recognizes that it has undertaken a major program for the development of Mass Rapid Transit and is sure that, with the help and cooperation of interested public and civic bodies, success can be accomplished in providing the very best in public transportation service. We are going to do our part as rapidly as we can.
