Kirkwood, State Controller, announced today that Orange County’s share of the $4,652,-805 in the Highway Users Tax Fund for apportionment to counties is $90,623.29 for the month ended January 31, 1954. Of the $20,429,618 available in the Highway Users Tax Fund apportionment, the counties received $4,652,805, the State Highway Fund for Cities, $1,887,994, and the State Highway Fund for Expenditure on Highways, $12,908,819, for the month of January. While the January apportionment was $1,344,199 under December, it was up $5,993,895, or 41.52 per cent over the distribution for January. 1953. The large increase this year over last is due primarily to the increase in the gas tax from 4½ to 6 cents per gallon, reported Controller Kirkwood.
