Los Angeles St. — Phone Anaheim 7100 $75 Million Goal Set for March Of Dimes in 1953 The American people will be asked to contribute $75,000,000 in January; it was disclosed today by John McKittrick, county chairman. This sum, McKittrick said, represents almost half again as much as was raised in last winter's record-breaking appeal, and will be needed in shifting from "defense to attack" in the fight against polio. "For 16 years," Mr. McKittrick added, "the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis has fought polio through its programs of patient care, research and professional education. In a sense they were defensive, but now we have added an aggressive new four program — POLIO PREVENTION." New polio cases, fortunately, have decreased this year from the all-time high of 1952. It was estimated that 66,000 polio patients of this and former years will receive financial aid from chapters of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis by the end of 1953.
