ST. — ANAHEIM Phone 4940 WCTU Hears Talk By EUB Minister When a meeting of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held recently, at the home of Mrs. Blanuche Fendley, 529 S. Los Angeles st., the Rev. Alexander McCandless, new pastor of the Evangelical United Brethren church, was guest speaker. Echoing the group's sentiment toward temperance in all things, he deplored figures based on a survey of 21 colleges which show that 75 per cent of men students and 56 per cent of women students are drinkers, and government figures that place the number of alcoholics in this country at 3,000,000. The problems caused locally by drinkers and drunk drivers will be on the increase, he said, because of the steady influx of newcomers. Mrs. Cora Marsh, club president, presided at the meeting which was begun by a devotional on hope by Mrs. Fendley. During the social hour, several of the ladies assisted Mrs. Fendley in serving tea and cookies. Wagners in Hurried Trip to Illinois Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence E. Wagner of 555 S. Citron st. made a hurried trip to Monmouth, Ill., on Oct. 6 to be with Mrs. Wagner's sister who underwent major surgery on Tuesday. According to a wire received on Tuesday evening by an aunt, Mrs. Zaida Mercer of Los Angeles, who is staying at the Wagner home, the operation was successful and the patient is resting comfortably.
