Home Department Takes Lessons In Rug-Making
In the first meeting of the fall season, the Anaheim Home Department convened at the home of Mrs. Richard Burdorf, 706 S. Harvard st., Fullerton, under the leadership of president Mrs. Jesse Anderson.
Rug making was the project lesson and various types of rug making were demonstrated by Helen Pannier and Margarethe Kelley, project leaders. Several lovely rugs made by home department members were exhibited.
A share-the-cost luncheon featured the surprise recipe of the month, baby pizzas, which were served with tossed salad, sherbet and cookies. The luncheon committee was composed of Nora Fricke, Grace Coontz, Esther Freese and Martha Bircher.
Committee reports were heard at the business meeting and included the announcement that a check for $40.00 had been received as prize money for the table arrangements at the Orange County fair. Two of these arrangements will be exhibited at the Pomona Fair next week.
Plans were made to take part in a county-wide outing which is to be a bus trip to Los Angeles to visit Helma Bakery in the near future.

Realty Firm Reports Record August Sales
Walker & Lee, Inc., Southland Realtors, this week, reported their sales reached a new 1953 high in August. In that month 382 sales were made totaling $4,502,419. To date Walker & Lee, Inc., reports sales of 1214 units, representing $14,298,273.

Two Services Begin at First Baptist Church

Nan Moore Back From BC Vacation
Mrs. Nan Moore, executive secretary of Y.W.C.A returned to her desk on Monday morning after a month's vacation in British Columbia. She made the trip by car with good friends, Rev. and Mrs. Alee Nichols of First Methodist Church of Santa Ana.
The vacationers ferried to Victoria on Vancouver Island and were captivated by the old world charm and the unhurried atmosphere of peace and quiet.
The scenery of the whole trip was magnificent and the party enjoyed fine weather throughout.

Two Services Begin at First Baptist Church
First Baptist church, Broadway at Citron, has announced that beginning this Sunday, there will be conditioner which has hitherto worship services. A crowded sanctuary and a growing membership made this necessary, according to Pastor Bob Kevorkian. The early service will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. The later service begins at 11 a.m.
The program for all children from one month old through the junior department (sixth grade) runs on an expanded schedule from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon. This longer time period permits the parents to attend the regular 11 a.m. service.
Pastor Kevorkian's topic for the morning services will be "Marks of a Christian—Humility".

POMONA — Listed among winning entries in the Future Farmers of America dairy division at Los Angeles County Fair, whose 1953 season will continue through Oct. 4, was that of Fred A. Roberts of Anaheim. He won second place with the Guernsey which he showed in the class for female senior calves.
Included among winning entries the goat division was that of James D. Pembrook of Anaheim, who entered Pem's Pride Joseine, junior champion among the alpines. Pembrook Alpines also took one blue ribbon six seconds.
Temple Choir Enjoys Dinner
Combining business with pleasure, the Temple Choir of White Temple Methodist church enjoyed a ham dinner on Thursday evening before a regular business meeting and a rehearsal period. Hostess was the new director, Mrs. Betty Facklin Rees, who was assisted by her mother, Mrs. Carrie Facklin and her grandmother, Mrs. Louise Oelke as well as friend and choir member, Mrs. Edith Scott.
Dinner was served on the patio of the Facklin home.
President Vera Jean Hilbers conducted the business meeting which followed dinner and plans were made to participate in the church planning retreat at Mar Casa on Balboa Island this past weekend.
The rhinoceros is herbivorous.
Large Numbers Of Adults Enter Evening Classes
A large enrollment responded to the opening of the adult education classes at Anaheim Union High school last week. According to Dick Ryan, director of the adult classes, there is still an opportunity to enroll in most of the courses being offered.
The heaviest enrollment has been recorded in the classes offered.
