Power of God
Told in Christian
Science Lesson
The Sunday Lesson-Sermon in all Christian Science churches is entitled "God." The sermon speaks of the glorious loveliness and healing, protecting care of the Father.
The Golden Text from I Kings reads, "Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepeth covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk be thee with all their heart" (I K 8:23).
Matthew's Gospel (12:10, 11) tells of a man in the synagogue with a withered hand and Pharisees questioned Jesus, "lawful to heal on the sabbath days? ... And he said unto him what man shall there be any you, that shall have one son and if it fall into a pit on the bath day, will he not lay his it, and lift it out? ... Then he to the man, Stretch forth the hand. And he stretched it for and it was restored whole, like the other one."

Mary Baker Eddy says in a correlative passage from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures:" "Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man." "To have one God and avail yourself of the power of Spirit, you must love God supremely." (pp. 393, 157).

chemists may have been called back from vacations. Perhaps huge shipments to the East were cancelled. Maybe telephone wires hummed between here and Chicago. Someone may have even called Washington. There might have been a small tremor on Wall Street.
At any rate, Max came back with another part and a diagram showing how to install it, with a diagnosis of the trouble: the carpenter who had set the lock in the first place had done it wrong.
I checked this and found it to be true, rebored a hole in the door, and now the lock works perfectly. Kwikset comes through again!
I happen to know the carpenter who set the original lock. Going fishing with him Friday. There will be two of us aboard on the voyage out, but it will be a lonely trip for me on the way back.

How his $51,000 tool kit works for you
Yesterday—Manpower and a drill rig contrived from a springy sapling, cable and drill bits sank our first wells. Since the rudimentary tools restricted their depth, they produced little oil. The "tea kettle" refineries of the day were limited, too. They utilized only a portion of the petroleum and turned out a small number of useful products.

A leaflet usually has a card attached called "authorization for representation," which the employee is asked to sign and return to the union.
Labor observers say the union apparently is experiencing difficulty in "selling" the idea of the cards since the leaflets go to great length to exhort the employee to return the cards. Leaflets use the "fear" technique and continually repeat such "scare" lines as "freedom from fear," not to "sign a union authorization card . . . is pathetic," "don't let fear of your job or fear of possible retaliation stop you." etc.
An IAM leaflet recently stated that the union had concluded a contract at another lock company in San Francisco, in which the employees got "one additional holiday." an insurance and hospital program for employees and their families paid for by the company, and "improvements in vacation, seniority, and overtime benefits."
A check through a state-wide association shows that the extra holiday and "improvements" do not equal or exceed those presently in effect at Kwikset. The "additional holiday is the reshuffling of a holiday that company already had and continues the total of seven—a figure Kwikset has given for years. This year Kwikset is giving eight paid holidays.
The union claim that the San Francisco company was paying for insurance and hospital programs for employees and their families was found at variance with the actual contract. The company pays for the employee. The employee pays for his family Kwikset has had this benefit for a long period of time.
The IAM claimed a minimum wage of $1.67 in the San Francisco plant. The figure in the contract is lower than that. A spot check of IAM contracts in the Los Angeles area indicates comparable rates begin at around $1.10. Because of differences in living costs in various parts of the nation, "area practice" in the matter of wages is the basis for contract negotiations.

A veteran labor observer in Southern California told the publisher of the Gazette that many of the industrial employees in the Anaheim area are apprehensive of the strikes which may come with unionism.
He said employees feel strikes could make only insignificant gains in view of the high wages and extensive personnel benefits now enjoyed by industrial personnel. Money lost in wages during strikes, he said, could never be regained.
A company was struck by the IAM in Pomona recently for a period of five weeks. Observers have computed that under the settlement, the loss of employee wages would never be made up. The computation did not include the assessments paid into the union by the members.
