Golden Wedding Anniversary of Mr. And Mrs. Herman Cordes Observed
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Cordes celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Tuesday with a dinner at the Steak House at Knott's Berry Farm which was followed by a gathering of friends and family at their home at 554 S. Ohio street.
It was fifty years ago—June 23.
Presbyterians Enjoy Steak Bake at Church
Charcoal broiled steaks as large as dinner plates and grilled to perfection were the main features which drew 245 paying guests to the barbecue held on Wednesday evening at the Presbyterian church.
The dinner was sponsored by the Presbyterian men to raise money for the indebtedness of the new building. The event was held on the outdoor patio, and the newly built barbecue pits donated by Cliff Haskell at the rear of the education building were used for cooking.
The steak dinner was five dollars per plate and included tossed green salad, scalloped potatoes, French bread, apple pie and coffee. According to ticket chairman Page Vincent, the success of the venture promises to make it
1903 that Herman William Cordes and Effie Christine Sievers were married in the Evangelical Lutheran St. Peter's church, Render, in Thurston county, Nebraska. The Rev. F. R. Fuerst officiated.
Bridesmaids were Louise Donovan now of Omaha, Nebrakska, and Anne Busch of Pender, J. D. Strudhoff and Carl Busch attended the groom.
The anniversary of this event brought many congratulatory messages, cards and gifts. A permanent record of the day's activities was made on film.
Guests at dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Cordes were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schafer (who attended the wedding), Mr. and Mrs. Wm. F. Ihrer and Mr. John Jensen all of Anaheim.
Mr. J. F. Ingle, Sr., of Millbrae; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Bruggeman and sons Freddy and Kenny of Garden Grove; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Barelman (nee Evelyn Cordes) and son Robert Henry of La Habra.

PFC. GEORGE R. SAUPE, son of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Saupe, 5330 LaJolla blvd., LaJolla, Calif., was an honor graduate of the latest class to complete the Second Army's non-commission officers' academy at Munich, Germany. The academy offers a short week leadership course for selected non-composers who are instructed in administrative work, wears ons, tactics and latest Army developments. Saupe, who is signed to Company C, 5th Ensign Combat Battallon, U.S.A., Army, Europe, entered the Army April 1952 and arrived in Europe last January. Saupe is graduate of Oakland High School and a former student of the University of Utah at Salt Lake City.
The steak dinner was five dollars per plate and included tossed green salad, scalloped potatoes, French bread, apple pie and coffee. According to ticket chairman Page Vincent, the success of the venture promises to make it an annual affair.
Chief were John Knutzen, Tex Middleton, Charles Pearson, Marlon Nickle and Clifford Haskell. Irvin Stahl was in charge of serving and Elma Hall headed the clean-up committee. Howard Hall's committee arranged the dining tables. Entertainment was arranged by Mrs. George Slooper, minister of music.
The tables were decorated by Mrs. Vincent and Mrs. Haliday. The food which accompanied the grilled steaks was prepared by the women's fellowship circles of the church.
After dinner, entertainment was arranged by Mrs. Sloop. Bill Talevich played the harmonica and Dr. Wilcox played several clarinet solos. Organ music amplified to the pain was played by Miss Frances and James Pearson.

White Temple MYF Holds Festival of Nations Tuesday
The Junior High M.Y.R. of White Temple Methodist church held a "Festival of Nations" on Tuesday evening in Wesley Hall. It climaxed a unit of study on the church around the world. Parents and friends were invited to see the display and hear the reports.
After the "visit" to the nations, the young people and their guests enjoyed a program of folk singing and folk games of the different countries.
The evening reached its climax with the installation of the newly-elected officers. Those being installed by the Rev. Frank Butterworth were Jimmy Wicker, president; Dennis Chance, vice-president; Joan Smith, secretary-treasurer; Diane Bradd, chairman of recreation committee; Sandra Husom, chairman of the service committee; Randall Schwacfer, chairman of the service committee.
Capacity Crowd Sees Annual Elk Dance Production
"Frolicsome Fantasies," the 18th annual dance extravaganza staged by the Richards-Martin School of Dancing and sponsored by the Anaheim Elks club was enjoyed by a near capacity audience in the high school auditorium on Tuesday evening. More than 215 Orange county youngsters appeared in the cast. The show was directed by Mary Lou Martin and produced by Mrs. Lennoir Martin. The proceeds will go to charity.
Stage settings and costumes revealed those of a Hollywood production and the seven separate parts of the main theme revealed an abundance of talent.
"Smorgasbord Land" as depicted by 36 performers was the initial act. Naomi Sell composed the musical arrangements. This was followed by the "Lily Pond Fantasy" in which 50 dances were fluorescently illuminated.
Life size photographs done by Katie and Burt Owen inspired "Artists Life." Rustic comedy was depicted in "Down on the Farm." The next complete show within a show was called, "Patricia's Tea Party" and took its theme from a door to door brush and gadget salesman.
For sheer beauty and romantic island music, the Hawaiian Lusau was the highlight of the show.
