New Anaheim Toastmistress Unit Meets The third formal business meeting of the new organizing unit of Northrop Anaheim Toastmistress club was conducted at the Melody Inn in Freserton, with President Licee Hogson presiding. Reggy Sullivan was toastmistress for the evening and a group discussion was held pertaining to by-laws for the new unit. Table topic and speechn prizes were awarded Etta Lester and Dorotny Lowards. The next meeting is scheduled for June 4. Bethel Baptist Justus Circle Feted at Dinner Members of the high school-college age Justus circle of Bethel Baptist church were guests of President Mrs. R. J. Quast when she entertained with a dinner in her home recently. Mmes. Adolph Bauausch and Phil Boettcher assisted the hostess in serving the 24 guests. Following dinner Mrs. Leonard Justus, chairman, conducted the business meeting at which election of officers was held, and Mrs. Steve Stevens led devotions. Mrs. Quast spoke on society news and policy. Elected to the officer panel were the Misses Nancy Bressel, secretary-treasurer; Janet Isbell, white cross; chairmen, Joan Stabbert, sunshine and June Carol Jungkelt, reading. 5 Anaheim Gazette Anaheim YLI Names 1953-54 Officer Panel The YLI general meeting held last week was presided over by Mary Jean Lambert with first vice-president Anne Treanor, chairman of the nominating committee, submitting a proposed 1953-54 officer panel. Recommended were the following: Marie Martin, past president; Mary Jean Lambert, president; Blanche Hudson, first vice-president; Lorraine Revell, second vice-president; Margaret Block, recording secretary; Virginia Mulligan, financial secretary; Opal Rimpau, treasurer; Mae Falk, organist; Leta Mae Smith, marshal; Dorothy Butchko, assistant marshal; Elsie Benner, inside sentinel. Trustees: Wenona Halderman, Maxine Pitcher, Ruth Johnson, Mary Catherine Worden and Betty Dailey. Delegates nominated to attend grand convention in Fresno, June 27 to July 1, were: Mary Jean Lambert, Blanche Hudson; alternates: Marie Martin and Wenona Halderman. Election of officers will be held at the general meeting on June 1. The monthly card party will be held tomorrow evening at 7:30 in the nome of Elise Benner, 219 S. Members whose birthdays are honored were: Helen Kish, M.Catherine Worden, Carrolyn Murray, Betty Waite, Pauline McElenan Lopker and Mae Falk. able to attend were Frank Backs, Marie Buberl, Winnipeg Sullivan and Mayne McDonald. Social hour hostesses were Margaret Block, chairman, Anna Marie Bletsoe, Betty Dailey and ry Losleben. Fremont P-TA Ends Current Year Fremont P-TA closed a successful year with the meeting held last week, with President Mrs. Philip Burd presiding and the flag salute led by Mrs. Carl Hatfield. "Thought for the Day" was given by Mrs. Paul David. Graduation exercises will be held Wednesday, June 10, at 7:30 p.m., to be followed by an eighth grade party at the Ebell clubhouse, with chairmen Mrs. Herman Schafer and Mrs. Carl Lencke in charge. Mrs. Gail S. Smith of Santa Ana junior college spoke on old glass, in keeping with the program theme "Family Hobbies." She displayed numerous fine specimens of glass, gathered from many parts of the world. A social hour concluded the meeting. Ex-Hornet in Stanford Review A junior at Stanford University, studying petroleum engineering, Alan C. Ambler, former Pleiades annual editor at Fullerton Union High school, took part in Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps midshipmen review Monday, May 25, on the Palo Alto campus at which time five companies were inspected by Rear Admiral Bertram Rodgers of the Twelfth Naval district. As commander of the first platoon, Able Company, Ambler accepted the outstanding platoon trophy, one of the awards given at the annual review to winning individuals and groups in yearlong competition. Son of Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Ambler of 1922 Skyline Vista Drive, La Habra, Alan was graduated from FUHS in June 1949. On graduation from Stanford he will go on active duty as a Naval Ensign. B. P. Woman's Club Presents Famed Artist An honor of distinction was bestowed upon Buena Park and this vicinity when Ben Messick, internationally famous artist, was presented in a one-man show by the Buena Park Woman's club at the clubhouse Tuesday afternoon and evening. Influence of Buena Park relatives of the artist enabled the Woman's club to secure this outstanding opportunity for art lovers in this vicinity. Ben Messick, noted for his unique character portrayals, created the nationally known painting of Emmett Kelly in "The Clown," a clown from whose eyes the pathos of all the down-trodden of the earth reaches out to touch the heart. Messick's divine gift in understanding of his fellow man manifests expressions in his brush which meets some definite response in those who view his paintings. Born in a two-room cabin in the Ozarks, and self-taught, Messick has been an instructor in various art colleges including the San Diego School of Arts and Crafts; Palos Verdes college, Chouinard Art institute of Los Angeles, Business Men's Art Institute, and the Long Beach Art Institute. He now conducts classes for advanced students in his home in Long Beach. New Anaheim Photo Studio Opens Today Anaheim's newest photographic studio opens today under the name of Oliver and Loving Studios, located at 300 E. Center street. Proprietors are Orval, C. Oliver and George W. Loving who have a combined experience of over 30 years in photographic work, and have maintained a studio in Santa Ana for the past two years. Listed as qualifications are all types of photography including portraits, weddings, commercial, aerial and advertising. Elections have been held by the various circles, with white cross work following the business sessions. The Meyer circle met last week with Mrs. Herman Strandt. Elected to office at this meeting were the Mmes, Fred Meyer, chairman; Glen Dodge, secretary-treasurer; Dayton Smith, white cross; Clarence Schneider, sunshine, and Herman Zachay, reading. Mrs. David Eggert was lunch-con hostess to the Eggert circle with the following officers elected: Mmes, Eggert, chairman; Victor Schmitman, secretary-treasurer; William Erhorne, white cross; Ralph Cornelius, sunshine, and Eric Hartman, reading. The Wedel circle met in the home of Mrs. Ed Duesterhoeft and elected Mrs. Dan Wedel, chairman and Mrs. John Krenzler, white cross. The Pieper circle met with Mrs. August Litz.
