Norcrafters Play Together in Recreation Club Program after Working Side by Side in Factory "Pleasant work plus organized leisure play" is a new twist given to an old edge at Northrop Aircraft's Anaheim Division where the local plant's recreation program is stimulating wide interest among the installation's 1300 personnel. Principle theory behind development of the Northrop-Anaheim Recreation Club, an employee participation, leisure-time organization, is that "people who like to play together, like to work together." This theory has been borne out at Northrop-Anaheim. Under the guidance of Hal Chanslor, director of personnel activities and services, and William Patrick, head of the Anaheim branch of the N.R.C., nearly 30 clubs, activities and employee participation groups are organized at Northrop-Anaheim. Interest shown by the plant's personnel reflects the popularity of the program. During the month of April for example, 547 of the plant's personnel joined in some activity for an overall average participation of 41 percent, nearly twice the national industrial figure of 21 percent. Many types of athletic, educational and cultural activities are sponsored by the Northrop-Anaheim Recreation Club. On weekends Northrop-Anaheimers can be found ice skating as a group at nearby rinks, firing rifles at the Brea range or deep sea fishing off Newport-Balboa. Recreation at Northrop-Anaheim is not limited to weekends, however, lunch hours, too, are utilized by many interested in some minutes of relaxation. At the same time at the other end of the plant the main conference room is occupied by the members of Northrop-Anaheim's Bible study group, who read and discuss various phases of the Book. While in Northrop-Anaheim's modern out-door recreation area, the clink of horseshoes against iron stakes underlies the interest displayed in the plant's new horse-shoe courts. A short distance away personnel are actively engaged in fast games of ping-pong. Around the clock, almost 24 hours a day except for the early morning hours, members of Northrop-Anaheim's work force can be found engaged in some N.R.C. activity. One of the "night owl" activities is the Nortor p-Anahien telescope club. Bank of America recently launched a "Service and Courtesy" campaign throughout California. On a certain Monday morning, every teller's window and every publicly visible desk in all 540 branches, and at headquarters as well, suddenly blossomed with stand-up signs reading: "Service and Courtesy; we strive to give you both." Then a strange thing happened. Everywhere the signs began to disappear. Nobody knew what was happening. Then they began to show up again, not in the bank, but in stores, factories and offices of the bank's customers! Sharp-eyed clients had observed that the bank had placed no advertising or identifying marks on the cards. They "adopted" the signs and the plan. Meanwhile the bank has re-ordered thousands more of the cards to replace those "adopted." Bank of America is determined to remain identified with the courtesy drive it initiated. The state was offered funds, but couldn't accept them without an act of the legislature. As a result, Huntington Beach will have its highway beautification program with funds paid for by the city, but spent through the state. According to State Sen. John 'Soul and Body' Christian Science Sunday Lesson The Sunday Lesson-Sermon "Soul and Body" in all Christian Science churches points out the need of understanding God as Soul. This verse from II Corinthians (3:18) constitutes the Golden Text: "We all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord." The "Spirit of the Lord" is illustrated in these words about Jesus, from Luke's Gospel: "Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases... And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing" (9:1, 11). Mary Baker Eddy says in Sci- Murdy of Orange county, Huntington Beach had funds for the beautification program, but was not permitted to do the work on the state highway right-of-way. The city requested the state division of highways to do the work with the city's funds, but that request had been turned down too. The highway department had no means of accepting the money—nothing on the books which said they could. Historical Soc. Meet Set May 23 A meeting of the California Historical society has been set for Saturday, May 23 at 1 p.m. at the state and county Arboretum (formerly the Lucky Baldwin estate) in Arcadia. Maurice Block is slated to speak informally on the restoration program and will conduct a preview tour of the Queen Anne cottage, the Carriage House and the Hugo Reid adobe. A chicken box lunch will be served by members of a committee headed by Mrs. Oscar Lawler. Reservations, accompanied by checks, should be sent to the office of the Arboretum, Old Ranch rd., Arcadia, not later than May 19. Price of the luncheon is $1.50 per person and guests of members will be welcomed. National Advertiser PORTABLE RADIO SPECIAL $29.50 WHILE THEY MUSIC DEEP NORMAN JEWELR 223 W.
