Visiting Nurses Worthy Agency Of Local Chest
A recent report of activities of the Anaheim Visiting Nurses association disclosed a story of an elderly Anaheim woman whose last days were made more comfortable by service rendered by this agency of the Anaheim community chest.
The story was recounted by Nursing Director Lynette Maan who withheld the name of the woman in respect for her and her husband. "All the needs of the elderly residents of a city are not met by a pension check, nor even by the many kind neighbors they may have," she pointed out.
First a companion was supplied who was in turn instructed by the association on special care of the patient. Life went more smoothly for the couple and they were not burdened with expensive hospital bills, and when the patient suffered the second stroke which ended her life, a visiting nurse was in attendance every day.
Visiting nurses' share of the Red Feather drive for funds in Anaheim is a small fraction of the work done in the city area by the women of mercy. Many of the patients are glad to pay a modest fee for the care they receive. Those finding themselves in a financial emergency are given the same treatment as those who pay, but their expenses are met by initiated.

Exquisite Hand Braided Rugs Enterprise of Mrs. Lehmann
"I just like to work" is Mrs. Sarah Lehmann's explanation of why at the age of 71 she has begun a business of making rugs by hand in her home at 1214 Diamond st.
These rugs which promise some day to become collector's items are the old fashioned three-strand braided rugs currently being recalled to favor by the popularity of maple furniture and homespun provincial furnishings. Mrs. Lehmann makes her rugs to order of all new 100 per cent wool material and estimates that her brand of braiding will give these reversable rugs a lifetime of 75 years' hard wear.
Patterns and Colors
Interesting patterns and gorgeous colorings are hallmarks of Mrs. Lehmann's handicraft. She buys an assortment of wool remnants which have special thickness and body from local textile stores and tailor shops. She cuts these into two inch strips, braiding them into her pattern as is or dying them the desired colors. In order to insure the dyed pieces against fading, she favors Putnam's dye and boils the material for at least an hour.
Color combinations and patterns are worked out according to Mrs. Lehmann's file of established patterns or they follow the dictates of the homemaker who has the rug in mind for some special room of her house. Once the size has been decided upon, Mrs. Lehmann is ready to begin.
Rug Table

married seems as though I always at work on a rug—my floors covered with it."
When Mrs. Lehmann moved to Anaheim three years ago, she decided to braid a rug to go with antique secretary and simple her she had. When her daughter admired it, she promptly started one for her. Friends and neighbors were fascinated with the type of work she was doing. Propositioned Mrs. Lehmann rugs for their own houses. Behe she knew it, Mrs. Lehmann is in business.
Earns Own Way
She is now at work on a rug that will measure 4 x 5 feet with nearly brown, green, and red colors. Her last one was several feet larger with shades of green predominating. One of the most effective she thinks was a small rug ordered in pastel colors to harmonize with Persian and Chinese floor coverings in a bedroom.
This interesting work keeps me healthy," says Mrs. Lehmann who is eligible for a pension but prefers to earn her own way instead. She takes 12 ironings a week and bralds the rugs in her spare time.
