12 Anaheim Gazette THURSDAY, APRIL 22, 1953 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Teen-Age Girl Takes Fall From State Bureaucracy BY H. C. McARTHUE SACRAMENTO (CNS)—Every once and awhile a story appears in the press which indicates the upcoming generation is being incubated with the principles of democracy, and is standing on its rights as citizens of the United States and California. These stories are so very refreshing that they deserve comment at times, just as a matter of letting the people know that bureaucratic government hasn't entirely taken over the state. Noted in the Newport-Balboa Press for April 2 is a photograph of 11 girls, all in the neighborhood of 18 years old, and all of whom look like the kind of youngsters that make the daily battle worth fighting. With a chaperon, the girls apparently rented a cottage for an Easter week vacation at Balboa island and set out to enjoy themselves as girls that age do. But the heavy hand of officialdom stepped in, attempting to mar the holiday by going through the cottage to determine whether or not there were too many people living in it. Officialdom, however, got the surprise of its life when one of the girls informed the representative of the state division of housing, which is a division of the state department of industrial relations, that the girls were still in bed, and that besides, she couldn't let them in without a search warrant. Officials Invited Out Reportedly, officialdom said that was okhe, they'd look the house Unsatisfactory Water Condition Seen in State SACRAMENTO (CNS) — The state department of public works reported today that water conditions in California are generally unsatisfactory for the approach of the summer season. The department said the only portion of the state to report normal conditions is the Klamath and upper Sacramento river basins. Deficient rainfall in February and March resulted in far less than normal increases in the snow-pack, the water impounded in reservoirs, and the water well levels of ground water basins, the report said. The outlook for California, based on the availability of surface water to meet irrigation demands for 1953, however, does not appear to be critical except in Southern California and the southern portion of the San Joaquin valley. Anaheim Tennis Club Tourney Plan Announcement Plans for the second annual Anaheim closed tennis tournament were announced this year by the Anaheim recreation department and the Anaheim Tennis club, co-sponsors of the event which last year drew over 100 tries in its first staging. For the tournament this year be the first two weeks in May 2 and 3, and May 9 and 10. The seven events scheduled give players of all ages an opportunity to compete against members within their own age group Divisions will include veteran singles, men's singles, men's blues, mixed doubles, 18-year-old and under boys' singles, 15-year-old and under boys' singles, 18-year-old and under boys' singles. Trophies will be awarded winners and runners-up in each event, with entries being limited to members of the Anaheim tennis club or residents of the heim high school district. Fees of 50 cents per person in the junior events, and $1.25 per person in the senior or open event will be charged. Tournament will be used in preliminary rounds with two new balls being prepared in the finals. Players are urged to post entries as soon as possible any officer of the Anaheim tennis club: Bob Carlson, Larry Villi, Barry Ryan or Mary F. Power output in the state will not be adversely affected by the deficiencies in surface water supply, due to the high degree of integration among major and steam electric plants. The snowpack throughout the Cascade and Sierra Nevada mountains is considerably less than that of a year ago, and water content varies from 120 per cent of normal in the upper Sacramento river to about 60 per cent of normal in the southern Sierra. Normal rain and snow conditions for the remainder of the season will produce normal or above normal snow melt runoff in the north coastal area and Sacramento river watershed above Shasta dam.
