ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA
The Farmer's Corner
By RALPH H. TAYLOR
(Executive Secretary, Agricultural Council of California)
When the American people put President Eisenhower in office they did so because they agreed with the Republican campaign slogan: "It's time for a change."
We had become convinced, under an administration that tinctured our lives from conception to the surrogate's court, that freedom and moral values were vanishing.
As clearly as anything can be shown on a ballot, we told the Republicans we wanted to return to constitutional government.
We said we wanted a change.
Are We Sure?
But do we, really? Do we actually want to be free to govern our own lives?
We had 20 years, remember, of "security." A generation was raised under the New Deal dictum. As a consequence, millions of Americans are looking with wonder at their first Republican president.
How strong is the moral fabric of these youngsters and how well have their elders weathered the storm? In short, how much courage have we left? Has the will to compete been bled from us?
Nobody really knows. Only one thing is certain: The sooner we find out the better.
Up or Down
In the weeks and months to come, all the restrictive laws which now bind us will pass in review.
First up is price control. Many such controls are already off. The deadline for all is April 30.
As decontrols occur, prices will go either up or down.
What will be our reaction? If they rise, what? Will we let the spectre of further inflation panic us into calling for the reimposition of controls? If they fall, will we whisper: "depression?"
It is just as well price control leads the parade, for it affects everyone directly. If its passing causes no great unheaval in our economy—and it is not expected—

McGuire said hot lunches as
well as sandwiches will be served
in an 1800-square foot building
situated on plant property south
of the present Northrop-Anaheim
building. Dining area will be provided inside the canteen and under a covered area adjacent to
the structure, he added.
In addition, small, portable
buildings near the east and west
entrances of the plant will furnish refreshments to NorthropAnaheim employees during morning and afternoon rest periods.
Plans for the establishment of
the canteen have been in progress
for several months, during which
Northrop-Anaheim has screened
nearly 20 caterers, including several national restaurant organizations.
"Our first consideration was to use the mass purchasing power of the Anaheim facility to the best advantage for our personnel." McGuire pointed out. "We feel that we have made an agreement which will assure Northrop-Anaheim people of good food at low cost, resulting in substantial personal savings."
Victor Renouf of Anaheim will manage the canteen for Jack Underwood of Alhambra, owner of the catering service that will operate it. Underwood will occupy the building under lease. The company will give the monthly rental proceeds to the Anaheim branch of the Northrop Recreation club.
"The completion of our plant's extensive recreation area in the next few weeks coupled with this new dining facility will give our personnel a well-rounded program of lunchtime activity," he added.
