Monday Forum Topic is 'Why Korea Matters' Dr. Alonzo Baker, ever-popular speaker on world affairs, returns to Anaheim union high school forum series on Monday evening, March 23 to speak on the topic, "Why Korea Matters." Dr. Baker, formerly with the University of Southern California, is now a professor of political science and international relations at the College of the Pacific in Stockton. Always active in community affairs, he has served as chamber of commerce president, Rotary club president, and post commander of the American Legion. At the suggestion of Herbert Hoover, Dr. Baker served on the national citizens' committee for the adoption of the Hoover report. In the summer of 1951, he made a tour of U.S. navy installations in the Pacific on the VIP program of the navy. He also attended the Republican national convention in 1952 in an official capacity. As an avocation, Dr. Baker is a professional lecturer and is rated among the leading platform speakers of the nation. He also delivers a five times a week talk over a Mutual station in the San Francisco area. Dr. Baker is a member of the American Political association, the American Economic association, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the World Affairs Council of northern California. Dr. Baker will be substituting for a program on "China," originally scheduled for March 23 Matter Baseless, Christian Science Lesson Declares Wisdom, understanding, and healing are gained through Spirit, not matter, declares the Sunday Lesson-Sermon on "Matter" in all Christian Science churches. John's counsel, "Little children keep yourselves from idols," constitutes the Golden Text. I John 5:21) The following healing by Jesus is related in Matthew's Gospel 12 (22): "Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb; and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw." "Physical causation was put aside from first to last by this original man, Jesus," declares Mary Baker Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Later she says, "Maintain the facts of Christian Science—that Spirit is God, and therefore cannot be sick; that what is termed matter cannot be sick; that all causation is Mind, acting through spiritual law." Then hold your ground with the unshaken understanding of Truth and Love, and you will win." (pp. 286, 417). Lectures by members of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship in Boston will be radiocast over Station KFWB (980 kc) as follows: "The Healing Prayer of Christian Science" by Lela May Aultman, C.S., of Denver, Colorado, Friday evening, March 20, at 8 p.m., from First Church of Christ, Scientist, South Pasadena. "Christian Science: The Science of Mind-Healing" by Frank T. Hord, C.S., of Washington, D.C., Monday evening, March 23, at 8 p.m., from First Church of Christ, Scientist, Santa Monica. National Orange Show Opens Today in Bernardino for 11-Day Showing Resplendent in its golden cloak of holiday attire, the 38th annual National Orange show, one of the nation's most colorful agricultural expositions opened its gates today for a run of 11 thrill packed days. Dedicated to California's multi-million dollar citrus industry, the glittering show has been enlarged in every department this year, according to E. L. Morgan, 1953 president, and promises to eclipse any other undertaking in the exposition's long and successful history. Happy Holiday Theme Hundreds of thousands of citrus fruits have been utilized to envelope the exposition in the glamorous touch of care-free days in keeping with the theme of the 1953 edition—"Happy Holidays." Everything from the opening of the fishing season to Christmas eve will be depicted in the feature exhibits — all created from the gleanings of hundreds of groves. Gov. Earl Warren has been invited to attend the opening night ceremonies and place the crown of royalty on the honey-blond hair of Donelia Dooley, pretty 17-year-old Highland, Calif., girl who was selected as California's orange queen to reign over the spectacular 11-day affair. Top-flight TV, radio, stage and motion picture personalities have been engaged by the National Orange show management to entertain the nearly 400,000 visitors expected to attend the exposition. Names like Russ Morgan, Jimmy Boyd, Margaret Whiting, Tony Martin and Tito Guizar are linked with the entertainment phase of the glittering citrus classic. Varied Performances Offered Twice daily performances will be offered visitors in the Ralph E. Swing auditorium which has County Planners Okay School Site Action affecting areas in Greater Anaheim were taken last week by Orange County Planning commission. Among zone change requests received was one involving the area on both sides of Highway 39 between LaPalma and Crescentaves, south of Buena Park, which includes Knott's Berry Farm. The petitioners, among the Knott's Berry Farm, request that the area be changed from agriculture to light industrial zoning. The planners approved the quisition by the Anaheim School district of eight acres at the southeast corner of Romneya creek and Acacia st. The school board proposes to build a new school on the site. The commission also approves the request of Loren H. Nikx for permission to locate a nursery business on the north side of Ongethorpe ave. California's newspaper editors and publishers will be guest of the National Orange show management on press day, March 2 and Shriners from Southern California will stage their colorful parade on the final day, designated as American Legion and Shriners day.
