Local Author and Composer Receives Honorary Membership In Mark Twain Society
BY JOAN S. WHITE
World wide recognition has come to Grace Shattuck Ball, poetess laureate of Anaheim. She has just received honorary membership in the Mark Twain society, the league of nations of literature composed of the world's who's who dedicated to "binding the world in bonds of cultured peace."
In assuming membership in this esteemed organization, Mrs. Ball joins with the crowned heads of Europe, Prime Minister Winston Churchill and President Eisenhower as well as many of this country's best known writers. Edna Forber, Cornellia Otis Skinner, Kathleen Norris and Bugge O'Neil hold honorary membership in the organization.
Book Published
Mrs. Ball has just published her third book of poems entitled "Daily Bread," a new and unusual collection of light verse inspired by her excursions to the desert and beach, and by Anaheim's changing seasons.
She is the author of "Arethusa" and "The Singing Heart," other volumes of delightful verse, and her poems have appeared in several anthologies. Mrs. Ball's work has been published by "The American Bard," "Dessert Magazine," "Poe," "The Glendale Press," "The Valley Times" and a host of other newspapers and poetry magazines.
The poems have been well received because they reflect her love of people and the ability to capture the beauty of nature. Each poem sings a song of its own in striking rythmic pattern attesting to the fact that Mrs. Ball is an accomplished musician as well as poet. She is master of piano and violin and gives music lessons at her studio here in town.
