$20,145,000 Saving for County Seen if Budget-Cutters Succeed
The 269,000 people of Orange county can be saved $20,145,000 in federal taxes in the future if "operation economy"—a reduction by Congress of $10,000,000,000 in the proposed $78,800,000,000 federal spending budget—is successful. California Taxpayers' association said today.
Pointing out the magnitude of the possible saving to the people of the county, the association compared the $20,145,000 estimated tax saving for the county, based on $74.64 per person average for the state, with the $26.462,151 property tax levy in the county for the county government, the cities, school districts, and special districts of the county for the current fiscal year, 1923-23.
A saving in taxes of $883,000,-000 "for Californians is possible if generation economy" is successful for the people of California pay about 8.83 per cent of the federal tax bill, even though they are only about seven per cent of the population of the nation.
This $883,000,000 possible saving for California taxpayers is almost as much as the $940,120,-150 local tax levy throughout the Family Carries On Name of Late Realtor
A new realty firm will open newly-constructed offices in Fullerton tomorrow, but the name of it will be that of an old-time Orange county realtor, Donald C. Jones, deceased.
Mr. Donald C. Jones, widow of the company's namesake and heir William C. Jones, will operate state for 1952-53.
"Statewide taxpayer organizations in 38 states, as well as economy-minded groups up and down the nation, are behind a program of orderly reduction in the overall federal spending and tax program," the California organization said.
Realistic 'Props' Aid Fullerton JC Speech Students
To inspire the proper mood in speech students making certain types of speeches, Denver Garner, Fullerton junior college speech instructor and forensics coach, uses realistic props.
In an advanced speech class, for example, students presenting "after dinner speeches were provided with a "banquet table," properly equipped with linen, flowers, silverware and water tumblers.
In the near future, such methods may pay off as they have before in eastern forensics contests. Fullerton's defending champions in extemporaneous speaking, oratory and radio speech will go to San Bernardino Valley college March 18; for the first of the spring forensics series.
Last year Fullerton's speakers won first in six of the seven eastern conference forensics events and second place in the other event. Champions were Ronald Trahea, Brea, now a sophomore, in oratory; Laura Lee Bowie, Fullerton, sophomore, in extemporaneous speech; and Roland Hillscher, Anaheim, sophomore, in radio speech.

AFTER-DINNER TALKS—Pictured is a realistic "setup" used by Fullerton Junior College speech students in practicing after dinner speaking. Pauline Parsons (Whittier) is the speaker; she is flanked on the left by Helen Buck (Fullerton); and Pat Engle (Fullerton); on the right by Louis Carhart (La Habra) and Stepha'e Jones (Anaheim).
First Job of Garden Year to Feed and Seed the Lawn.
When the calendar says that spring is here, experienced gardeners put on sweaters, and rubbers if necessary, and go out even on muddy soil to perform the first two tasks of the planting season—applying plant food, and sowing grass seed.
Timing is of the essence, for these operations. Winter breaks up with messy mixture of freezing and thawing, snow and sunshine, and while these conditions make beginning gardeners stay indoors, the veterans know they are made to order for spreading plant food, and dropping lawn seed on the thin and bare spots.
When the ground thaws out after a freezing night, once the deep frost has been drawn out, the surface of the soil will be seen to have a honey-comb appearance. Tiny holes will be left in thawing soil, which shrinks as it thaws. Farmers sow oats on soil like this and say the seed "muds in."
MORE ABOUT Mossadegh Flees
Continues from Page One
court intrigues against the government, informants said, and the Shah agreed to leave the country until the premier agreed he could return. In return Mossadegh promised no action against the ruler during his absence.
But meanwhile a third political power moved into the picture.
Iran's powerful Moslem religious leader, grim old Mullah high priest Kashani, called a closed session of the Majlis lower house, of which he is speaker. A short time later a Majlis delegation took a letter from Hashani to the Shah asking the ruler to stay home.
Then the action began.
Kashani - influenced bazaars closed down and Kashani gangs began demonstrating for the ruler to remain.
Kashani men paraded in front of the palace shouting "death or our Shah!" Other followers of the mullah marched on Mossadegh's home.
A notorious Kashani follower known as "The Brainless One" smashed down Mossadegh's front gates in a charging jeep and crashed into the front door of the premier's residence.
House guards fired shots and from four to 12 persons were reported wounded.
It was then that the premier fled out of the back door in his pajamas.
Saturday night's Majlis session was held under tight secrecy, but informants said Mossadegh entered the session fighting mad—still in pajamas—and demanded a vote of confidence.
The Shah personally broadcast to the nation a reaffirmation of his decision to remain in Iran.
He spoke of the day's demonstration of sentiment for him as parliament met in closed session behind a heavy police guard.
WASHINGTON UF—Whether the Senate will give first
WHEN SOIL IS IN MID-SEASON CONDITION IT TAKES PLANT FOOD LONGER TO REACH ROOTS.
Frost helps plant food to reach the roots.
the longer you wait, the less chance your new seed has to develop into vigorous, permanent grass plants.
Plant food spread now should be chiefly inorganic, the commercial plant foods as distinguished from manures. Organic materials are not made available to plants until temperatures of the soil rise above 70 degrees, but the chemical foods are available right away.
Always feed perennial borders at this season. There will be no danger of burning anything, and the food will find its way down to the roots without disturbing them. When the soil dries out, you will have to dig into it to get the food down where it is needed, and this may be harmful to the plants.
If you feed plants well at the beginning of the season, when growth is just starting, they will enjoy a vigorous youth, and develop extensive roots, which in turn will reach out to find their own food to maintain the top growth. The effect will be visible in your peonies, iris and delphiniums, and all the other perennial flowers which are the stars of the garden display in May and June.
