BUY OR SELL-- Get FAST RESULTS Norcrafter Welcomed Back to Factory After fighting a year's bout with a mysterious allment that almost caused his death, Ramon F. Fajardo returned triumphantly yesterday to his job and friends at Northrop Aircraft's Anaheim Division. As his colleagues called his name and smilingly gathered to shake his hand, Ray's face glowed with gratitude and pride. Each kind gesture reminded him of a thousand such gestures of these same people during a nightmare that lasted almost 12 months. To understand this story, it's necessary to go back to the early weeks of 1952. Ray was alling. For some unknown reason his back pained him and he lost weight until he barely tipped the scales at 94 pounds, a slim weight even for a man only five and a half feet tall. Wounded in Service At first he attributed his trouble to a neck wound received while fighting in France and Germany during World War II. But the doctors who examined him thought he had tuberculosis and gave him less than an even chance to survive. On Feb. 22, 1952, Ramon bade farewell to his co-workers at Northrop - Anaheim, kissed his wife and children goodbye and entered the tuberculosis ward of the Orange county hospital. To him it was the end of an all-too-short road. Just 12 years before, 34-year-old Ray had come to America from his home in Manila, Philippine Islands. He had worked at many jobs, sought for his country, married RAMON FAJARDO'S fellow workers at Northrop Aircraft's Anaheim plant lined up this morning to welcome Ray back to work after an absence of nearly a year. Co-workers cooperated to provide Fajardo family with gifts thought he had tuberculosis and gave him less than an even chance to survive. On Feb. 22, 1952, Ramon bade farewell to his co-workers at Northrop - Anaheim, kissed his wife and children goodbye and entered the tuberculosis ward of the Orange county hospital. To him it was the end of an all-too-short road. Just 12 years before, 34-year-old Ray had come to America from his home in Manila. Philippine islands. He had worked at many jobs, fought for his country, married Alice and had two handsome boys. But he didn't find his niche in life until he came to Southern California looking for work in the fall of 1951. Northrop was just opening up its Anaheim optical assembly plant at that time and in September, 1951, he became the fourth member of the accounts payable section of the plant. Stranger in Town When Ray started working in Anaheim, he knew no one. He had no relatives here and his family was in Louisiana waiting to join him. While looking for a home for his family, he encountered a friendly cooperation at the Northrop plant. The girls in his department scoured the surrounding area after working hours until they found a house for him at 313 S. Main st. in nearby Orange. When his wife and family finally arrived, the Fajardos settled down to enjoy life together, unaware that tragedy would soon strike their family for the third time. For Ray had his trials ever before he himself took sick. His wife was twice afflicted with infantile paralysis and the second time it crippled her. Still they were happy. The family was reunited, they had a roof over their heads, friends and a good job. HOMECOMING—Happy to be home again with his family after an illness lasting nearly a year, Northrop-Anaheim employee Ramon Fajardo, (right) watches his son, Ramon M., cut out some valentines, while his wife, Alice, and youngest son, Daniel, look on. IN THE DAYS OF LONG AGO From the Files of Anaheim Gazette By MRS. HENRY KUCHEL 75 Years Ago February 1878 50 Years Ago February 1903 Bishop Johnson of this diocese STRIKE THEIR FAMILY FOR THE THIRD TIME. For Ray had his trials ever before he himself took sick. His wife was twice afflicted with infantile paralysis and the second time it crippled her. Still they were happy. The family was reunited, they had a roof over their heads, friends and a good job. FRIENDLY ASSISTANCE When Ray's hospitalization came it was a bad blow. The tried not to think about medical household and other expenses plus the fact that Alice, an invalid, was left alone to care for the children. However, they soon realized they weren't alone in their struggle. Offers of assistance start pouring in from Ray's Northrop Anaheim friends. George Reed, his supervisor and firm friend, along with a score other departmental personnel banded together to make certain Ray had frequent visitors, to talk his wife and children to see him and to make things as comfortable for them as possible. Official help by the company was begun through the Northrop Anaheim employees' insurance plan. In less than a year he has received more than $1500. Arrangements for additional financial assistance were made through the Northrop Recreation Club which Ray was an active member. Collections were taken up in his department and in other sections of the plant. Exact total of these amounts is not known but this spirit of giving and knowledge that he had go friends behind him helped Ra almost more than the money. LEGAL NOTICES (Pub. Anaheim Gazette Jan. 27-Feb. 3, 10, 16, 19) NOTICE OF ANNUAL MEETING OF ANAHEIM BUILDING AND LOAD ASSOCIATION Notice is hereby given that the annual meeting of the showgrounds of the Anaheim Building and Loan Association will be held at the office of the Association at Center and Lodge. IN THE DAYS OF LONG AGO From the Files of Anaheim Gazette By MRS. HENRY KUCHEL 75 Years Ago February 1878 There was an Indian affray yesterday morning in which one of the aborigines was badly cut with a knife. Jealousy regarding a damsel of the tribe was said to be the cause. The bricklayers made arrangements yesterday to commence the building of P Davis & Bro., on Centre street. Ben Dreyfus is erecting an Eclipse windmill on his Centre street property. House breakers are around. The house of Mr. Henry was entered on Monday night. Nail down the windows and turn the dog loose. The authorities of the town should turn their attention to the repairing of some of the ditch crossings. Many of them are in a deplorable condition. A Chinaman was in town Monday complaining bitterly that someone had stolen his horses. Whether the unhappy Celestial succeeded in finding either his horses or the thief we were unable to learn. A large number of Indians who were employed at Raine's hop field came into town yesterday. They camped near the Gazette office during the day, but at evening moved into the outskirts of town. Mrs. E. J. C. Kuven is seriously ill. There will be a meeting of Squatters at the Arbor today. Judge Brunson came down last evening to attend the meeting. 50 Years Ago February 1903 Bishop Johnson of this diocese will make his annual visitation to St Michael's on Sunday next, when he will administer the rite of confirmation. There will also be celebration of the holy communion. Miss Melanie Cahen entertained the TUC club on Wednesday evening at a chrystanthemum party. The parlors and dining room were decorated in white "muns" and smylax, white wax candles decorated with green ribbons, the club colors being green and white. Miss Adella Strodtthoff won the prize, a burnt-work nut bowl, for making the best tissue paper chrystanthemum. The young ladies all report a delightful time. 25 Years Ago February 1928 Herman Dickel came down from Pasadena on Tuesday to attend a meeting of directors of the Savings, Loan and Building Association, of which he has been a member for 38 years. He was elected a director of the association at its initial meeting in 1888, and is the only member remaining of the original board. He attends meetings and takes an active interest in the association which has grown from a small beginning to one of great proportions. Mr. Dickel formerly conducted in this city for many years the largest grocery and general merchandising establishment in Orange county. He disposed of his business interest here some years ago and now resides in Pasadena. He sold to this city for $100,000 the 20-acre tract on Lemon Hill, now the site of the beautiful City park.
