B-6. Anaheim Gazette THURSDAY MORNING, FEB. 5, 1953
ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA
Riding the CAPITOL CIRCUIT
with your 75th Dist. Assemblyman
Le Roy E. Lyon Jr.
How many of you have driven from Sunset Beach to Huntington Beach in the last few years and noted the terrible mess of cans and debris? Well, your Assemblyman, in cooperation with Senator John Murdy, the Orange county Associated Chambers of Commerce, and other groups are doing something about it.
More State Beaches
A. B. 1353, Lyon, has been introduced to amend present sections of the Public Resources Code so that much more rapid acquisition of such beaches may be accomplished. You see, during recent years, and at the present time, the law requires the county to match funds on a fifty-fifty basis with state money used in the acquisition and operation of State Beaches. Under our proposed amendments, this matching requirement would be eliminated. It will be much more fair and equitable for Orange counties because the majority of people using our famous and beautiful beaches are not Orange county residents but residents of many other counties throughout Southern California. Hundreds of thousands of tourists from all over the United States also use our beaches.
It is, therefore, a problem of state concern and responsibility to use state funds (received from tidallands oil royalties) to rapidly acquire and improve the decreasing supply of beach property available for recreational State Beach Park use.
You would be particularly interested to know that Orange county tidallands yield about 80 per cent of the royalties now impounded, but which will continue to be made available after general Legislation returns the enship of tidelands to the state.
In connection with this the proposed changes in Orange county delegation, ing your Assemblyman andator John Murdy, appearently before the State Park mission which conducted it in Los Angeles. Chaikin that body is Joseph Knight father of our influential States Senator. Another known member of the com is the native Californian ennial Grand Marshal of Leo Carrillo. It appeared orange county and other with beach problems will cooperative attention not from other legislators, by the Park commission and representatives of the adive branch of our state ment.
