Anaheim Gazette SUNDAY MORNING, JAN. 18, 1953 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Second Lecture Of P-TA Series To Be Given Second meeting of the PTA series, sponsored by the Fullerton PTA council and the Fullerton evening junior college will be held Tuesday-evening, Jan. 28, at 7:30 in the Chapman-Wilshire auditorium. Dr. Floyd Bond and Dr. Lewis Perry, professors of economics at Pomona college, will discuss economic problems involved in parenthood, and economic education in the home. Their topic is "Pocketbook Problems for Parents." The lecture series is open to the public without charge. Realizing the importance of money matters in the home, Dr. Bond and Perry have built their lecture around helpful suggestions and important facts relative to the family's finance. They will approach the subject of economics, money management, investments, insurance and budgeting from the Sunshine-Shower Club Meets with Mrs. Thompson Mrs. William Thompson, 6691 S. Western ave., Buena Park, entertained the Sunshine and Shower club Thursday at luncheon, serving "More" and ice-cream in peach cups. Mrs. Charles Freeborn and Mrs. Richard S. Yater were given the mystery prizes. Other guests were Mrs. Ruth Bennett, president and founder, and Mmes. Lewis C. McBratney, Milton Hasell, Elijah Briggs, Robert P. Clark, William Kudl, Bertha Maloney, Charles C. Rube and Conna E. Pollock, publicity chairman. Mmes. Pollock and Briggs will be hostesses at the monthly dinner for husbands and guests at their Starr st. clubhouse at 7 p.m., Jan. 31. The next business meeting will be at the Briggs residence on Winston rd. layman's viewpoint and in the layman's language. Claire Coci To Present Organ Recital Claire Coci, outstanding Ancan virtuoso, will be heard in organ recital Monday even Feb. 2, at the First United Methodist Church in Santa Ana program will consist of both sae and contemporary organ ic. Marywood Aux To Have Luncheon And Style Show The Marywood auxiliary met this week to plan the scholarship benefit luncheon and style show at Greenbrier, Garden Grove, at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27. Mrs. Vic­tor Peltzer, president, announces. Reservations are to be made with Mrs. Fred Lampher, ways and means chairman, with a donation of $3. Co-chairman is Mrs. Lee Fabian. Edna McMasters of Fullerton will present the fashions and a special $100 merchandise order from her shop is among the many prizes. Proceeds will go toward four scholarships for deserving students who wish to attend Marywood Central Catholic high school for girls and to purchase a tape recorder for the school. Many visiting corps were present for the impressive ceremonies at which Mrs. Hazel Downing Laguna Beach served as installment officer. The meeting featured presentations, and photographs were taken of the Fullerton retiring and incoming officers. A dainty buffet luncheon was served from a charming floral candleabra decorated table. Cypress School Girl Scouts Announce Project Seventh grade Girl Scouts are collecting toys to be rebuilt and given to needy children next Christmas. In addition to the "Toy Bank" as their 1953 project, they are saving used Christmas cards and co-operation with the Cypress Baptist church. These cards are to be sent to the Children's hospital in Los Angeles. Both cards and toys should be sent to the Scout leader, Mrs. Leon W. Sevell, 8622 La Homa, or to Mrs. Diane Tathcock, 5382 De Long st. Cypress Women's Community Club Has Luncheon Twenty-six members of the Women's Community club of Cypress met in the home of Mrs. Rena Switzer. 8781 Moody st., Tuesday. Mrs. Len White and Mrs. Louis Washchin assisted the hostess with the 1 o'clock luncheon. Mrs. Milam Williams gave the thought for the day in a poem,"Challenge of the New Year." New officers elected are Mrs. Earl Essex, president; Mrs. Richard Hatcock, vice president; Mrs. James Broadbelt, secretary, and Mrs. Murton Jones, treasurer. Five new board members were elected to fill vacancies due to resignations. Mrs. Jones will serve on the Cypress coordinating council and it was voted to pay the year's contribution to the council. Mrs. Bertha Hamby will represent the club on the park board for another year. Mrs. Bert Kroesen drew the mystery prize. Secret pals will be revealed at the Valentine party Feb. 10, which is to be given in a Garden Grove restaurant. MARKET TO CELEBRATE Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Board Members Give Party for Pastor's Family The Rev and Mrs. William D. Howard were pleasantly surprised after prayer meeting recently, when 40 members of the Naza- rene church of Cypress feted them with a house warming in the new pastorate at 5302 De Long st. As the first social event in their new home, the Rev. and Mrs. Howard, with twin daughters, Gayle Ann and Susan Ann, entertained board members of the church at dinner, in appreciation for their efforts in obtaining the new residence. Stanton Church Elects Officers The Stanton Community church held an election of officers and voted to purchase acreage on Rose st., south of Main st., at a recent business meeting. The land will be site of a new church to be built at a cost of approximately $7000. Harold Lovett, Harvey Peterson, Paul Pletz, and John Karraker will serve as trustees, Richard S. Yater will serve a third term as treasurer, and Max Molick, assisted by Mrs. Olga Jennings, will also serve a third term as Sunday school superintendent Mrs. Elizabeth Marti is the new church clerk; Mrs. Jeanne Wettstein, pianist, to be assisted by Mrs. Charles Moolick. Doris Grieve was returned for her second term as Sunday school secretary. Usheres are Lee Mitchell, chairman, John Martin and Harvey Peterson. Sunday visitors were the Rev Robert Bunnell of Escondido American Sunday school missionary and the Rev I. E. Bode from Hayward who is founder of the Stanton parish and works for the Sunday school union. The Ladies' Missionary group will meet Jan. 23 when Mrs. Ellizabeth Jackson missionary from Borneo will be the speaker. Cypress Men to Ride in Parade Frank Vessels and son Frank Jr. left Thursday for Washington, D.C.As members of the Long Beach mounted police patrol they will ride their palomino mounts in the inaugural parade.
