Harold M. Clapper Addresses BPW
The Anaheim Business and Professional Women's club started the new club year last evening with one of the most delightfully interesting and enlightening meetings in the history of the club. The guest speaker, Harold M. Clapper, sales promotion manager for the Westinghouse Electric Supply Company, addressed the group and showed a film, both of which carried a profound, awakening message with much food for thought. Both drew a vivid picture of the American way of life, versus communism.
The club met in Lum's cafe at 6:45 for a dinner which was served at tables beautifully decorated and colorfully centered with white chrysanthemums, red carnations and red, white and blue candles.
Immediately following the dinner hour, President Ida Mae Walburg opened the meeting with the comment that "of all the good things the BWP stands for, the most important is the intangible characteristic of good-fellowship, evidenced by the group."
The program opened with music by two talented young musicians, Mary Lou Love, violinist, and Marilyn Schumming, piano accompanist. Their first number was V Monti's haunting little gypsy dance. "Csardos," and the second, "Fiddlin' the Fiddle," which delighted the audience with its gay, blitting melody, by Dave Rubinoff.
Before the showing of the film, "Letter to a Rebel," he said his message was not to sell the idea of the American way of life to women of high mental calibre of a group such as he was addressing, but that it was to bring home to each and every American, the fact that there is a great and urgent need to talk and sell the idea and principles of Americanism. "A merchant," he said, "who has for sale an article which he firmly believes in himself, doesn't hide it under the counter, and silently listen while another merchant expounds on his goods." Clapper was on naval duty and stationed in Russia during the war, and his description of life behind the iron curtain "made one less resentful," as Mrs. Walburg rentarked, "of March 15.
The film, "Letter to a Rebel," told the story of a newspaper editor's letter to his son who is in college, and apparently being indoctrinated with a communistic viewpoint. It carried an impact to stir the mind that takes too much for granted, our free and healthy way of life in this country.

Dance Band Class To Be Offered At Fullerton JC
Kenneth Helvay, Fullerton Junior College band director, announces that the new class in dance orchestra, which is to be organized the second semester at the college, will enjoy dance music produced by themselves.
The class will meet on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 2 p.m. and will offer two units of credit. If enough students join, the class will provide a dance orchestra for many of the social campus functions.
"The course offers a fine opportunity for students to receive valuable experience in playing popular music and possibly a chance to earn money on the side," said Helvey.
Especially needed, he said, are performers on the saxophone, string bass, accordion, piano and brass instruments.

Perfection in workmanship is insured by the fact that she is not content to follow stamped designs as is, but actually pulls the threads in the material to be embroidered as a gauge fo., her stitches.
Showing great individuality in her work, Mrs. Loverim does not leave the background plain as caled for in most cross stitch picture patterns, but works the background in solidly using suitable plain colors.
Her outdoor scenes are matchless. Exciting, enthusiastic comment are the series of likenesses of early motor cars done in cross stitch that she has given Mrs. Hollingsworth to decorate the walls of the den.

Having actively associated with the juvenile court for a year, Judge Gardner was well qualified to speak on the subject.
