Chapters of the California Young Farmers and California Young Homemakers are for the most part, established in junior colleges where they serve as "go-between" between the 4-H and Future Farmer clubs and the adult farm organizations. Queen Florence, a Fullerton Junior college co-ed, was homecoming queen for her college, and reigned at the Nov. 28 Turkey Day football game between Santa Ana college and Fullerton JC. Last spring she was queen of the Community Fair, an annual event in Fullerton. Lending enchantment to her dark-haired beauty, is the delightful modesty and reticence of Florence, a combination which serves to make her a true queen in every sense. That way you won't miss important incoming calls. Ask the youngsters to be considerate, too. When they remember that others may be waiting to use the line they're being good party-line neighbors. Always be sure you hang up properly after calling. Due to a misunderstanding, it was erroneously stated Friday that Carol Haderile would have the leading feminine role, whereas Carol has the part of Agnes, an angel. The sparkling little comedy-fantasy will be presented Thursday. Feb. 26 at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium. HOW MANY How many sheets do you actually need to have on hand? This depends on laundry facilities, the number of young children in the family and how often the sheets are changed. If you have an automatic washer and wash every few days, naturally you will not need as many sheets as the person who sends hers to the laundry. It is false economy not to wash sheets often since soil causes wear rather than washings. The same is true of towels and table linen. Household experts advance the following figures to serve as a guide: two mattress pads to fit each bed, four sheets per bed, and four pillow slip for each pillow. To equip the bathroom, six bath towels per person is the suggested number. Besides this you will probably want six hand towels per person, four face cloths each. And of course guest towels according to your particular need. In the table linen department, each family has its own requirements. You will want to see that you have ample cloths in good order with napkins for each, and probably no less than three sets of place mats with napkins to match. When you shop, remember that your eastern friends and relatives can't seem to find in their markets the wonderfully absorbent ex-flour sacks we use for dish towels. They will appreciate a package in the next box you send. SHEET SELECTION It is easy to be carried away by beauty and color when buying sheets and pillow slips, but it is best to get the most in quality Hospitality Tea Given Saturday Another of the delightful Hospitality Teas, sponsored by the Retail Merchants was held Saturday at the Dorothy-Wade Dinner House. The beautiful tea-table centerpiece was a gift of the Carmen flower shop, and Dorothy-Wade gave the refreshments. Table favors were donated by the McMahan Furniture store, Cotler's, Sesma Cleaners and McCoy Drug company. Door prizes were presented by Saywer pharmacy, Lake's Men's Wear, Narath Music company and Dorothy-Wade. They will appreciate a package in the next box you send. SHEET SELECTION It is easy to be carried away by beauty and color when buying sheets and pillow slips, but it is best to get the most in quality for the money you spend. You will find both muslin and percale sheets in many different grades. Their labels will tell you a great deal about them. You find find percale smooth, almost silky to the touch, a luxury quality due to fine spun yarns, many to the inch. Muslin is heavier, feels coarser to the touch, and is heavier in weight. Both can give excellent wear. The percale is highest in price. Percale is made in two types, the standard and finest quality while muslin is made in about four grades depending on the number of threads per inch, workmanship and weave. In comparing values, hold the sheet up to the light to examine evenness of weave. Rub it between the fingers to check on the amount of filler used. The lower priced sheets are loosely woven and have excess starch which washes out to leave the sheet sleazy. Long wearing sheets have a firm, strong selvage with no loose untidy threads. A muslin with not less than 18 threads per inch gives satisfactory wear while those with not less than 140 will probably wear the longest. If possible, select a sheet that is at least 108 inches long. Five inches is lost in hemming, five more in shrinkage; neither of which does the store deduct in calling the sheets 108 inches long. The actual length of 98 inches is needed to insure its tucking in properly on either side of the bed. The most satisfactory widths range from 81 inches to 90 inches for a double bed, 72 inches for a three quarter width bed, 63 inches for a single bed, and 54 inches for a cot. Sheets with contour corners will save you bedmaking time, and insure more comfortable sleeping for children or adults who do much tossing and turning. It is built on a barren knoll and laid with rocks from two to five and six stories in height. Ladders were used from floor to floor, and access was gained through a hole in the roof. In the event of attack by hostile, warring tribes, the ladders could be pulled up as a measure of defense. Motel accommodations through the state are good and the weather most agreeable. Others agreed with them, according to the Aldens, as evidenced by an assortment of out-of-state license plates. A few miles from Phoenix, they came to the western town of Scottsdale, founded by Chaplain Scott in 1888. While other towns have struggled to achieve the modern, this town has retained the atmosphere of the early west Adobe buildings and hitching racks which were used by the Indians, still stand. South from Tucson to Tombstone, one of the most colorful towns in the west, stands Boot Hill cemetery, just on the skirts of town. Well-named is Boot Hill, since most of its occupants were either shot or hanged, some no doubt, by mistake. Plans are being made to subdivide, and many new homes are to be built near the cemetery. The climate in this locality is ideal for asthmatics. Taking the road south from there, the Aldens went on to Bisbee and Douglas, then over the border to Agua Prieta in Old Mexico. Westward at that point, toward home and California, with rich memories of a wonderful trip. Mary Millerick ANAHEIM 218-220 E. CENTER ST. ample free parking in rear ph.
