LONG AGO From the Flies of Anaheim Gazette
By MRS. HENRY KUCHEL
Mr. P. Thompson, late of Cheyenne, Wyo., has purchased the local Ford agency from Sid McGraw and will take charge immediately. Mr. McGraw has been in Anaheim since 1923 and in retiring, leaves many friends. He says his only plan is to have a complete rest.
J. E. Pleasants, who recently resigned as county bee inspector, has been succeeded by Roy Bishop, who is a horticultural inspector. The two positions will be combined. Several hundred dollars annually will be saved to the county by this plan.
Thomas K. M. Smith, superintendent of the meter department of the Industrial Fuel Supply company, leaves Saturday for a visit to Honolulu. He will return with his wife and two children who have been visiting Mr. Smith's mother on the island. Both Mr. and Mrs. Smith are native of Hawaii.
Action in the matter of widening and paving the state highway between the limits of Anaheim and Fullerton is expected to be taken at once according to reports by County Supervisor William Schumacher All of the 27 property owners along the road have given their approval It is planned to widen the road to 57 feet and pave it.

ing fund it has been deemed advisable to hold a church fair which will last three days. Each evening an oratorical and musical program will be held. The opening address will be given by the Hon. Judge Ballard of Santa Ana. There will be a number of booths—the fancy work and domestic booth, the Japanese and fish pond, the oil-well booth and the wheel of fortune, the ice cream parlor, Rebekah's fountain, the shooting gallery, and the election booth, where women's suffrage is encouraged. The officers of the fair are, Mrs. Frank Shanley, president; Mrs. Joseph Backs, vice president; Mrs. Adolph Rimpau, secretary. Dinner and lunch will be served.
Gerald Sandilands writes from Long Island where he and his wife have been spending the summer that they leave there the twenty-seventh en route for California. They stop a few days in New York and come west to Arizona for a short visit with Mr. and Mrs. Will Lawrence.
Glenn G. Shaw, editor and proprietor of the Long Beach Independent, shot himself accidentally on last Wednesday while out hunting rabbits. His parents, C. C. Shaw and wife and L. L. Shaw of Santa Ana were notified, but did not arrive until after he died. The funeral took place in Santa Ana.
Count Pechstein was in from Buena Park a few days ago. He has completed the sale of his property.

William Falkenstein's young son won the second prize at the Baby show last week and now you cannot touch papa with a 10-foot pole.
Next week there will be held the Catholic fair in the opera house. As is well known by our readers a beautiful church edifice has been begun which reflects credit to our city and to the denomination whose house of worship it will be. To aid the build-
White Temple Schedules Series On Dark Africa
Sunday marks the beginning of two series of events at White Temple Methodist church. At both the 9 and 11 am services, Rev Frank E. Butterworth, pastor, will begin a series of sermons to continue until Easter on character stories of the twelve disciples—the various types of men whom Jesus chose to be His followers. This week he will discuss "Jesus First Choice Andrew."
At the 7 o'clock evening service the motion picture "Challenge of Africa" will inaugurate a four weeks' study of the Dark Continent by the entire church.
Every church school department with youth fellowships, and the adult study group taught by Mrs. Elmer Hamilton which will gather from 8 to 9 p.m following the evening service each Sunday this month will all be studying the current racial tensions and politically explosive problems of Africa which offer unlimited opportunities to the Christian missionary enterprise.
The series will be climaxed by an unique social event in the African theme to which the whole church will be invited as the culmination of the study Subsequent Sunday nights will present speakers with pictures both missionaries and residents of Africa, including students attending California colleges. The public is invited.

On Thursday last Virgil D. Smith, a son of Charles Smith of Garden Grove, met with an accident which ended fatally. The lad who had been staying with Mr. Bancroft for some time started on horseback to mail a letter to his mother who is visiting friends in the upper part of the state. He was accompanied by two of his cousins, sons of W. J. Smith of Orangethorpe. While near Mr. Mead's residence the horse Virgil was riding stumbled and fell on his rider. He was picked up in an unconscious condition, and so remained until his death which occurred on Sunday morning at 4 o'clock. The funeral took place yesterday. The victim of the accident was about 13-years of age and was a bright boy and an apt scholar. The parents have the warm sympathy of the community in their sad bereavement.
Forepaugh's circus and Managerie will visit Anaheim the latter part of next month.
As a little son of Mr. Backs was playing in the new brick building opposite the Gazette office yesterday, he stumbled and fell into the cellar and sustained very severe but not serious injuries about the head.
A letter was received yesterday from Adolph Rimpau. He is at Fillmore, a town of some importance in Utah, located about 75 miles from Salt Lake His sheep are in fine condition and improving.
