When You Buy in Anaheim GONE TO THE BIRDS—the wild Indians, Fred Beckham and Lowen Casey, from left, that it. Beckham hands book-keeper Evelyn Krage her Thanksgiving turkey. The remainder go to other Casey-Beckham Pontiac employees for Thanksgiving and customers who purchase a new or used car. GAZETTE PHOTO 168 Anaheimers Donate Blood One hundred sixty eight residents came to the Red Cross blood mobile on Nov. 21. Rejections were very low so a substantial amount was added to the 3000 pints of blood being sent each month from this area to Korea, according to Mrs. P. H. Nelson, blood program chairman, who directed the work. Mrs. M. A. Gauer and Mrs. Walter Rommel, canteen chairmen, were in charge of canteen. With a group from Stanton, under Mrs. Lewis McBratney, assisting. Staff aides worked under Mrs. Ben Kaulbars. Nurses aides were Miss Edith Falkenstein and Mrs. Lola Compton, with Mrs. Arthur Roquet, Gray Lady, aassisting. Mrs. V. W. Borden, motor corps chairman, was on duty for that work. The junior chamber of com- Christian Science Thanksgiving Set Thanksgiving Day services will be held in all branches of The Mother church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston. Thanksgiving Proclamations by the President of the United States, or by the Governor of the State, or both, will be read as a part of the service. "O sing unto the Lord a new song: sing unto the Lord, all the earth." This verse from the Psalms (96:1) will be the Golden Text of the Thanksgiving Day Lesson-Sermon. A period will be set aside for the giving of testimonies by Christian Scientists appropriate for the occasion. Zion Thanksgiving Service Scheduled A special Thanksgiving Day service will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Zion Lutheran church, Emily and Chartres sts. The pastor, the Rev. E. H. Pfug will Anaheim Gazetteer by JOHN S. NEUBAUER O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good; for his mercy endureth forever. — Psa. 107:1. THANKSGIVING — Have you counted your many blessings to see how much you have to be thankful for? Most of us take our good fortune for granted. If we should take stock, we should really find ourselves much better off than we think we are. There are many less fortunate than we ourselves who are thankful to be able to enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Life has become complex. We gripe about regulations and the high cost of living. At least we're living, while most other folks in other lands are thankful for a mere existence. LINES-O-TYPE — Clare Van Hoorebeke may have been happy that Anahi lost the flip and Fullerhi played Compton's Tarbabes. The genial Anaheim mentor still hasn't gotten over the rainsoaked evening. Incidentally, Joe Merlo's footballers were so covered with mud that they walked directly into the showers after the mudbath and then took off their uniforms and showered again. A large number of Anaheimers are showing considerable interest in Orange county's grid titanic—the annual Fullerton-Santa Ana college turkey day clash. Anaheimers are inclined to favor the Dons. Zion Thanksgiving Service Scheduled A special Thanksgiving Day service will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Zion Lutheran church, Emily and Chartres sts. The pastor, the Rev. E. H. Pflug will speak on the subject "America, Give Thanks." Special music will be provided by the Zion Senior choir under the direction of Mrs. Olive Kempin. even though Jewell Owens and Len Weaver are the sparkplugs of the Fullerton team and are among the eastern conference scoring leaders... Dr. Edward Lee Russell's polio count has reached 172, an all-time high. While the disease has numbered a dozen fatalities, traffic has snuffed out 90 souls and crippled untold hundreds... Mae Lord has found jury duty rather arduous. It's a rough job trying to weigh the evidence and to deal out justice, but Anaheimers, such as Mrs. Lord, always find time to serve. It is a patriotic duty. NOTES — Dana Newkirk, the packinghouse impresario, is getting ready to do some "scattered light firing." Bill Montague believes wind machines are a good investment if a grower has a grove that won't be turned into a subdivision... Wonder if Postmaster Louis Hoskins ever cornered Lyle Koernik, the able Anaheim machinist, for first-hand information on the Argentine. Lyle accompanied his father, Julius Koernik, for a pioneering venture to the South American Cow Country. Lyle could tell of experiences that won't be found in magazine or book adventures... Bradley Orton Young, aide to Brazil's minister of aviation, is the lad who gives us the low down on the higher ups in the land of the Pampas. Young managed to get around the South American air routes when with Panagra. He was stationed in Buenos Aires—the Paris of the Western Hemisphere—for years... John Northrop's retirement wasn't a surprise to the management of the Anaheim plant. The industrial giant his engineering genius built will be a lasting tribute to him. Okinawa, Japan Trip Related Rev. William M. Walker, pastor of Wesley Methodist church, was the speaker last evening for the Christian Church Men's Brotherhood. Mr. Walker told of his trip to Okinawa and Japan. Harold Andrews presented several trombone solos. W. G. Manion spoke on his favorite Bible verse. Community singing was led by Bob Brookman with Marshall McPie, Brotherhood president, presiding over the meeting. The dinner was served by Circle Three of the Women's Council, Mrs. Alfred Mills, president, and Mrs. K. Shigekawa, dinner chairman. Phone 4618 ERMISCH "MY CLEANER" Branch: 350 W. Center Plant: 117 W.
