Windladden rains chilled Anaheim and its environs. White snow - capped mountains proved it was no illusion. NEWSETTES—Howard C. Cameron was virtually assured of election to the Santa Ana-Orange municipal court as the count of absentee ballots neared completion. He had a 64 vote advantage over Ronald Crookshank when the counting was recessed. County Clerk B. J. Smith estimated that 80 ballots still remained to be counted in one of the county's most interesting election races... Garden Grove shops operated by Homer May and Myrene Pahl were damaged by fire believed to have started by defective wiring in a sign... Mrs. J. W. Roper, wife of the commander of the 11th naval district, christened the first of six 144-foot wooden mine sweepers being built by the South Coast Co. at Newport... Beckman Instrument Co., Inc., will establish a 1300 employee plant in La Habra. Until its plant is completed, the concern will set up shop in a vacant (Placentia Pioneer) packing house in Fullerton... Imogene Greer, 24, wife of S/Sgt. Wayne Greer, died of a concussion sustained in a fall in Hawaii a few hours after arriving from Santa Ana where she had lived for five years. Grand theft charges against Richard McGovern now of San Francisco, and Irving Schulman, Ellay bartender, were dismissed, and James William Drake, 42, of ELLAY, received a suspended prison term of one to 10 years. Roy Wiltse, alleged leader of the bizarre movie-like theft, is still at large ... Judge Robert Gardner continued to make it unpleasant for narcotics users who failed to cooperate with the court as he sentenced an "uncooperative" marijuana user to a year in jail and gave another a "break" with a minimum sentence. SPORTSWISE — Considerable interest is being shown in the annual Fullerton-Santa Ana college turkey day grid classic to be played at Fullerton this year ... With Jewell Owens leading the attack, Dick Spauding's Hornets beat Santa Rosa, 20-19, in a non-conference clash, while Bill Cook's Dons took Riverside, 25-13. ... Laguna's Artists got to the little CIF playoffs finals by beating Chula Vista, 19-0 ... Mater Del dropped a 45-0 decision to El Centro in its 1952 grid finale. ... Compton trounced Fullerton, 20-7, in a CIF playoff game. Clare Van Hoorebeke's Anahi Colonists tied Fullerton (3-0-2) but lost the flip as to whom would represent the Sunset league in the playoffs. TRANSITION—Cupid and Doc Laguna's Artists got to the little CIF playoffs finals by beating Chula Vista, 19-0. Mater Del dropped a 45-0 decision to El Centro in its 1952 grid finale. Compton trounced Fulletton, 20-7, in a CIF playoff game. Clare Van Hoorebeke's Anahi Colonists tied Fullerton (3-0-2) but lost the flip as to whom would represent the Sunset league in the playoffs. TRANSITION—Cupid and Doc Stork ran neck to neck with the Grim Reaper running a poor third in Anaheim's vital statistics race last week. Alma Maglio became Mrs. William A. Bell; Lorraine Eddleston and Donald Jungheit pledged their troth; George Burt and Jacqueline Cushing got a marriage license. That's a society note. William Wright and Hilda Davids took up light housekeeping; Edward Woods and Shirley Groomer got married; as did Vincent Dauser and Kathryne King; Charles Johnson and Norma Jean Collyer also joined the November newlyweds. Death claimed Mrs. Dottie E. Bonnat, 51, wife of Anaheim's popular police judge, Leonard Bonnat. She was an Anaheimer of 26 years standing. Elmer (Mike) Ford, 54, also died after a lingering illness. He had been a resident of Anaheim for 20 years. Lynn Stull had an occasion to celebrate. He became father of twins—a boy and a girl. Calvin Bouse, Monnie Smith, Ernest Norman and Miguel Duarte were blessed with gals, while Leonard Ingram and Artie Meeks became fathers of boys. NITECAPSULE — Most girls don't care if a man is rich or poor just as long as he has money to spend on them. LOS ANGELES (P)-Jet planes will fly over Southern California Sunday to test the alertness of volunteer aircraft spotters.
