Grigg Home Harks Back to Days When Anaheim was Rural Area
By JOAN S. WHITE
Home building in Anaheim has reached an all time high. The new residences which dot the once vacant lots have been designed for carefree country living, inspired by the contemporary California way of life.
Almost before the paint is dry, these new homes are occupied by families who are attracted as much by a community that is as solid as the surrounding mountains, as by the attractive, completely modern homes.
Nearly 100 new families per month are putting down roots in Anaheim's pleasant, uncrowded surroundings where every city fa-
"We want to be able to sit back and enjoy the place once in a while," says Mrs. Grigg, explaining why they put in a dichondra lawn outlined with a ground cover of ivy, and why they filled in the children's play area with sawdust-like tanbark instead of with grass.
Pleasantly Informal
This thinking dictated the interior plan of the house as well. It is geared to pleasantly informal family living. The 1400 foot, three bedroom home has ample living area without putting too much of a strain on the maidless household.

Nearly 100 new families per month are putting down roots in Anaheim's pleasant, uncrowded surroundings where every city facility is maintained amid a casual country atmosphere.
Typical Home Owner
Typical of home-owners new to Anaheim is O. H. Grigg and family. Typical because the family includes two small children, and typical because their home, finished just last month, has individuality and charm as well as every modern convenience.
Taking their cue from the time the property at 716 North Citron was considered way out in the country, Mr. and Mrs. Grigg have built a ranch type, modified provincial home and painted it barred. The beautiful new house which rambles the width of the 85-foot lot has excited much comment because of its picturesque interior and lovely landscaping.
With two youngsters and many activities, the Griggs wanted a home with all the comforts but one where the upkeep would be easy.
This thinking dictated the interior plan of the house as well. It is geared to pleasantly informal family living. The 1400 foot, three bedroom home has ample living area without putting too much of a strain on the maidless household.
Meals are served in the combination kitchen-dining area at the front of the house, except when company comes. Then food and refreshment is served buffet style from a handsome cherry extension table in the living room opposite the open fireplace.
Carrying out the delightful provincial theme, the kitchen has a sloping open beam ceiling and cabinets to match in the natural pine finish. Work surfaces are of tile linoleum on the floor. Walst high walnscutting of natural wood lines the dining area which is set apart from work space by the range backed up to a shallow cabinet used as a room divider.
Bright wall paper in a saucy print belies the fact that this room is functional first and foremost. Labor saving devices are all here — dishwasher, garbage disposal, refrigerator with freezer compartment, water softener. Laundry room connects kitchen with gar lawn outlined with a ground cover of ivy, and why they filled in the children's play area with sawdust-like tanbark instead of with grass.

The living room, a big measureuring 14 x 25 feet, is drenched by a huge fireplace at end. This feature, decorative well as practical, has a rainy brick hearth and is flanked on either side by a pair of natural hutches, beautiful in detail.

Simulated Farmhouse
That the farmhouse, simulated or real, has come a long way its attempt to meet the needs present day living is demonstrated by the architect's choice many built-ins for storage spaces in the bedrooms, and the very tractic bath.
Insulation keeps the open beded bedrooms cool in summer forced air heat warms them winter.
