IN THE DAYS OF
LONG AGO
From the Files of
Anaheim Gazette
By MRS. HENRY KUCHEL
October 1877
Mapuel Guerro, having attended a late dinner party on Wednesday evening, was found by Officer Bohn at a late hour in the night in a somewhat exhilerated condition and furnished with lodgings at the Town Palace for the night. Yesterday morning he was brought before Justice Clark who recommended him to spend 12 hours in the jail apartments, reflecting upon the evil of his ways and the effects of late suppers upon the human system.
A dispatch from San Bernardino says that George M. Perry, who has been on trial for the past four days for the murder of Hicock, committed suicide in the county jail on Thursday, by taking poison. The verdict of the jury yesterday was murder in the second degree, and Perry was awaiting his sentence.
Ex-Governor Pacheco, Judge Brunson and J. R. Briesly made a visit to Santa Ana yesterday.
October 1902
Frank Ey was over from Santa Ana on Tuesday. Frank has lately returned from a trip to San Francisco and coast points. In San Jose he saw W. F. Frantz, who has a large barber shop in that city and is doing well.
Sprock Fossek jumped his cases Tuesday morning and when we found it out was 14 miles on his way to San Juan Hot Springs. If there is no paper next week it will be offered for the finest flowers and five hundred entries of as many varied types and shades of dahlias are expected. Programs of music will be staged both afternoon and evening under the direction of Mrs. C. A. McCullah. A feature of the evening program will be the crowning of the dahlia queen. The list of candidates seeking to be queen is Grace Burns, Santa Ana; Fern Jeters, Buena Park; Blenda Probst, Anaheim; Helen Page, Buena Park; Lillian Affachiner, Fullerton; Susanne Kellogg, Yorba Linda and Charlotte Bingham, Cypress.
